I sprayed my frame last fall with the spray cans, most places held up good except where it gets heavy spray around the wheels and back frame. I will redo those areas this fall.

On my new 2015, I think I'm going to try Amsoil HDMP on the frame exterior and use the fluid film on the inside of the frame since they have that little wand that can attach to a spray can.

I plan on doing my truck this fall. I don't know much about it yet but was talking to another TW member that used a gun on his truck. Said it worked well.

after reading all these comments, I think my plan of attack will be as follows. Treat my frame with fluid film next month. Then throughout the winter, use my local DIY carwash (its only $2.50) probably weekly if temperatures permit. Ill use the first wash to do a full soap/rinse on the truck body. Then ill do a second wash just on the rinse mode and hit the undercarriage. This way i can use the carwash wand myself and not hit any one spot of the frame too hard, in hopes of preserving the fluid film. Im sure frequent use of an automatic carwash undercarriage blaster would remove the FF, hence wasting your money! Members in warm climates are getting a kick out of this.

I think no matter how you treat your frame, if it's with fluid film or another similar product.
The thing to keep in mind is that it will need to be a routine maintance procedure.

So maybe the best way to approach this is buy a gallon and a good spray gun, and keep an eye on the undercarriage. Get in a routine of checking and taking care of the problem before the rust starts.

I already have some minor surface rust on my frame. Its a 2010 and im the second owner. I just dont want it to become a major issue in the long run. All the dealers i asked before i Bought my truck said toyota switched frames after that headache with 1st gens and its not a problem anymore. Im sure a major company like toyota does not want a repeat of that! I just get nervous because the truck was such a big investment!!

It sounds like Fluid Film attacks and inhibits existing rust as well. I would imagine it would help with your surface rust.

I see you live in co. I lived in Arvada 35 yrs. You should not have a problem.

Never did anything to the frame, never worried about it.

When I moved to NY. That's when my problems started. I know, I was a fool for moving in the first place. Nothing like Co. I'm home sick.

I agree but you live in MA... haha no offense
Here in upstate NY my truck is white for mons a year!! vvv
I spray the truck down with water between storms and that's it all winter.

I have some minor surface rust but not that bad and I have 50k on the truck. I haven't treated it yet but will this year. Honestly, if you apply it every early fall you'll have no issues at all.

IIRC, the frames where switched up again in 2009 or 10. And they are good. Mine is a 2010 and like stated before. No more than some surface rust at welds. That's without any treatment. Just this last winter is when I hit the welds with F.F.

But like I also said, I keep after it in winter. I hit the do it yourself places. I only do the rinse also. No soap, because I've had soap freeze on it before and that bugs me. So I just rinse real good. No issues so far.

I bought a kit last fall on ebay with 2 gallons, an undercoating gun, and a spray can of fluid film for like 100 bucks. Did my truck and the wife's Venza. The stuff works. Come spring my freshly-painted (before the fluid film) KB coatings paint was still nice and fresh. Underside of my wife's car looks great too. Toyota is going to have fun getting it all off before they do their service campaign undercoat next month.

It will actually come off pretty easy with a pump garden sprayer with a mixture of Dawn and warm water.

And follow up with a presure washer to get the soap off. The soap will cut that stuff.

It won't wash off unless you are trying to get it off. Soap and water and a good scrubbing or a pressure washer will take it off but weather will not. I use it in the shoot of my 6' snow blower may have to do it twice all winter. My truck is 4 years old now and the frame is still black.

Don't wash it too often and don't use high pressure underneath.

I did that last year thinking I was doing good and the fluid film was gone in no time. This year I'm not touching it
