I'm a new (to me) taco owner. I've got a 2013 double cab, long box. While I was cleaning today, I noticed a bit of rust by the kick plate had started to form. When I removed the kick plate, there was a fair amount of oily fluid leaking and pooling up.

I have no clue what I'm into here. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Is the kick plate the same as the door sill?

Anyway you can provide a wider point pic?

wider pic would help, it's tough to tell what were looking at. Is that under the door? Weird spot, but usually the only thing running on the cabin side of the firewall is coolant to the heater core, which is corrosive so that could be it.

EDIT: smell it, coolant smells sweet.

Lol I wouldn't recomment it, but if you have a fly problem a small cup of coolant will attract and kill them :)

Does it have any color when wiped with a paper towel?

Good advice. It could be running from the engine bay through firewall holes.

Only thing that could be leaking on that side would be brake booster. Brake fluid will eat through paint real quick

Take a look at the underside of the truck and see if any of the rubber grommets are missing or torn. Perhaps it's from water intrusion.

^This. Or if it's oily, it could be rustproofing spray done by the previous owner. The spray shop usually remove the grommets to spray inside the body.

Thanks. I'll take a look. It's fairly oily and yellowish in color.

That would be brake fluid. Which means your master cylinder is bad

How would brake fluid travel to the door sill?

From the rear seal of the master cylinder where the drake pedal rod go into the booster and down the fire wall and onto the floor board. I see it happen a lot when people bleed their brakes and put the pedal to the floor and rip the seal

OK, I can see getting brake fluid on the floorboard, but how would it end up in the door sill, which is raised and higher than the floorboard?

It's only higher at the pinch seam not all the way up the kick panel
