Honestly, I consider myself lucky that my favorite truck is even offered with a manual. I read the other day that fully electric vehicles outsell manual transmission gas vehicles by 2:1 in America. I blame the lazy-ass millenials.

Maybe electric cars are better? They will be. Just wait.

Eventually, sure. All they have to do is invent a battery technology that allows a full recharge in the same amount of time it takes to pump gas, a network of places to recharge, and a reasonable range. How hard is that?

Those of us that enjoy a good road trip wouldn't buy electric until all of that is in place.

You may not have the choice when the gas stations start closing. Anyways..... They don’t have to do any of those things. It just your entitled mind that thinks those things are necessities.

That, and also decent cold weather performance.

It is happening sooner than later, and not based on eco friendly people, or public policy. People want electric cars, right or wrong. They will be higher performing vehicles, that’s already a reality.

Not in my experience. I do live in a fairly cold place, we probably have snow for 6 months, and for two or three months, when it's below -20C, life gets sucked out of batteries.

Starting batteries and the batteries they use in EV are different animals. Anyways........your not going to have a choice, so it doesn’t matter. The good news is electric vehicles will be better than anything you are driving now, so you have that to look forward to.

Btw, on the other extreme, I work in a hot mine, where they are experimenting with battery trucks, and that hot humid environment also regularly kills batteries. They announced huge breakthroughs in technology a couple of years back, but looks like most of the new equipment they are getting now is going right back to diesel.

But enough about batteries. OP, MT is the way to go, whatever other options you choose.

My Taco will be the last gasoline pickup I buy. I hope I get 10 years out of it, and they are still selling gas in 10 years. 2019 was the first year more gas stations closed than opened near me, so we’ll see.

I’m looking forward to the 2000ft-lbs of torque and deep water fording with an EV truck. I look forward to being able to extend my range while camping, using solar, rather than diminishing my range every time I start the truck. Less complexity and greater reliability will come as well.

A good adage that is a reasonable way of looking at things: if your life depended on your lawnmower starting in the spring, would you chose gas or electric?

Pikes Peak has fallen. No Internal Combustion engine will ever take it back. EVs will be sold to the masses who want a higher performing vehicle, and then gas sales will further plummet, making it even more expensive to market and produce fuel. Gas and diesel will be driven out of the market by factors that have nothing to do with environmental stewardship.

    This is amazing:

This is a thread about a fella who wants a certain configuration of the tacoma, not epower vs ICpower debate...

OP- before I purchased my double cab I had thoughts about MT access cab, but double cab fit my needs better. Later to find out after purchase the OR wasn't available in access cab, so I felt better knowing I got what I wanted.

If I were you, for the love of MT, go for the double cab!

I work on Hybrid vehicles and from my experience, cold hasn't been a problem. It's the heat. We have more heat related shutdowns than we do cold related issues. And we don't have the hottest weather here either.

The selection available is funny. I wanted manual and double cab when I bought mine, but the OffRoad isn't available in that configuration in Canada. So I bought the Sport. I am happy with it though. I can make it mine own. It will be the last vehicle I hopefully purchase. And maybe someday I will pull the engine and put an electric motor in front of the transmission. :sawzall::welder::burnrubber:

Why would any fully electric vehicle have more than one gear?

This is the only Mustang I care about.

Seriously though, I am surprised that it's an electric vehicle and has a manual transmission. I thought all electric vehicles would be the final nail in the coffin for manuals but this gives me hope. I was only against buying an electric vehicle because I want a manual, but this sways me.
