Anyone know the real difference between these two other than the fact that a larger topper gives more head room and I assume not as aerodynamic and aesthetic as a topper that is flush with the cab.

More difficult to carry loads on the roof if you can't extend at the same level beyond the topper onto the cab roof (kayak., boards, lumber, etc.).

Go high-rise if you plan on sleeping in there. (I personally think hi-rise looks better (esp on an old Dodge) and the flush topper makes my truck look like an SUV) but as said above, flush topper is easier to use for hauling long objects

I think aesthetically yours looks much better but I probably will look into a high rise due to trying to fit my bikes standing up. Don't want to go too tall tho, still need to get into the garage! Wish they provided interior and exterior dimensions on leer, are, and snugtop shells

I could see that. I feel like flush would be ideal and look better too but I would really love to have a shell tall enough to fit bikes so I may just go with a higher shell

I went in to buy a topper today and they said I couldn't added vented windoors to my tacoma because it's a shortbed. Your truck also looks like a shortbed, how'd you get the ARE dealers to install those windoors?

Go hi rise, especially if you plan on sleeping back there.

Did just buy a MX series! For some reason they don't want to install the vented windoors on the mx series and shortbed though... very weird.

that does suck but it's the same ARE dealer. Kinda lame they won't add vented windoors for the highrise but will for the topper that's flush. Doesn't make too much sense.

I have no idea, my shell dealer said he could do it. He mentioned that ARE uses a third party for the windoors, he may have installed them himself. I guess I lucked out.

Is your topper the "V" series? Apparently those are the only ones that can have slider windoors on shortbeds for some unknown reason xD

haha, awesome. I contacted ARE reps this morning and they explained to me over the phone that there is recession on the mx series that isn't there on the v series. Apparently they can't get rid of the recession for the mx series because it is in the molding and your topper does not have it allowing you to accommodate vented outdoorsman windoors on a shortbed. Kind of sucks since I think people going for the extra headroom would benefit more from the ventilation but w/e it is what it is.
