I use a chubby most of the time this time of year with a dropper of some sort under it. I typically end up catching a couple per trip on the chubby, so I definitely don't have anything against it.

The way I see it, if you're catching fish, that's awesome. I don't care if it's a spinning rod or fly rod. I don't personally use "bait" (worms, lizards, etc.), and stick to spinners or plugs on the spinning rod, but I'm not gonna blast the people that do. Yes, anyone can throw out a worm and let it sit there for 5 minutes and pull out a fish. But, most of the same fly fishermen that will blast someone for that will be throwing a San Juan worm into the same hole.

I totally understand what you mean. It's just hard when I've fished a hole with a fly rod and basically exhausted it, and then someone comes in right behind me and nails one with a spinning rod. For some reason that just frustrates the hell out of me.

Hit th gym at 6 this morning so that I could fish this evening if the rain stopped.

The rain has stopped. Time to go wet a line.

Santa Fe is awesome but not exactly a trout Mecca lol. Meanwhile the San Juan (yes the one the worm is named after) river is north of there on your way to CO and definitely is a trout Mecca lol. Tons of feeding fish in that river kinda like fishing in a hatchery.
Take that for what it's worth lol

Also u need to eat at the pantry http://www.pantrysantafe.com/phone/index.html
while in Santa Fe. Get the enchiladas and a sopapilla. U can thank me later :)

Missed a good fish on my first cast. I was premature  watched it and took it right from its mouth.

    Only caught one.

Thanks for that. I was just trying to make it to Santa Fe in a day/night from Houston, TX and fish for a few hours before I made my way up into CO for the rest of the trip. I was just looking for a suggestion on a camp spot and/or a creek or something I could get my line wet with a decent chance to catch a fish. I'll definitely be in trout mecca in CO, but wanted to not waste any time if I could.

How do you like that rod compared to other less expensive rods? I just want to know if you really get what you pay for. They went on sale the other day and I was considering one in 9wt or 8wt if i can convince myself. Nice pictures too.

I have two one in 3wt and one in 6wt. They are great and worth it in my opinion. The 3wt in particular allows me to throw heavy double/triple nymphs with ease and cast a dry delicately. Something I couldn't do with other rods of this length and wt including it's less expensive brother in the recon. At the end of the day though find something that feels right to you both fishing and cost wise. Orvis let's you cast them if you ask.

Good to know. The 9' 9wt tip flex I want isn't on sale but there is a 9' 8wt mid flex for $680, $170 off. This weekend I might drive to the nearest Orvis store in Charlotte and see if the mid flex rods seem too slow.

Got the 3wt on that sale. 670 out the door. My 6wt is mid flex. I prefer it for my cast.

Supposed to rain all night and most of tomorrow. Really hoping the creeks will be stained...but not chocolate milk...tomorrow evening. Typically results in big trout. We'll see!
