I have connections for some of that stuff haha
I actually got to use a 3wt H2 the other day. I liked it a lot but there is still no way I can or will spend $800+ for a rod. The only reason I consider a Tidal at $500 is because I really want a "nicer" rod and it sounds exactly like what I am looking for.

The Pond is a great place to start. That's how I started it was a great place to learn how to cast, and have fun catching fish.

Hit up the Madison, Gibbons, and Firehole rivers in Yellowstone this past weekend. Some rising on the firehole but no luck on the other two. I had my girl with me and wanted her to see the park features so didn't get a ton of time with a line in the water but can't wait to be back next year with my brother for a fly fishing only trip. I mostly stood near the bank in my keens to wade in a bit but Im going to bite the bullet on waders and boots before that trip next year. Pulling fish out of those rivers has been on my mind since I was a kid on vacation. My dad's ashes are there and it felt really special just to fish without any luck but less than 24 hours later and the itch to return is huge...Denver is just so much of a big city now, the woods are calling me back. Happy 4th to you all.

Adds a whole layer of enjoyment and accomplishment. :)
That said I buy a lot of standard patterns like para Adams and royal wulff. I tie the bug species specific patterns and streamers cuz they look/work better

Not at all far for me, but the streams feel great in the summer with sandals...

Went this morning with the same guy from a couple days ago. It's almost a tradition that we fish on or around the 4th. My "memories" thing on FB popped up yesterday and reminded me of all the fish we've caught On previous 4OJs. Unfortunately, we got skunked today. I did hang a 20ish incher. He didn't have his net so he was coming to get mine while I played the fish. Made 3 or 4 good runs and then....poof...it was gone :(

Got to spend some quality time on the river today.
Hooked a little 'bow in a nice little pool.
Felt great to be out dipping a line in the water.

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
Hate to get skunked, and I have not been fishing in over a year becuase of the house build.

Sometimes a good fight is just as good though. You got beat, no worries, can't win them all.

I'd love to get my legs and line wet. Maybe one day when the house is done.

The same shit everyone else has.
I got skunked again today too. 2 trips in a row. Fish were active, I was able to get a ton of follows on 'buggers, but no takes.

i know the feeling. i fished a local stream yesterday and had bass all over my poppers until the last second and would scare away.

only landed a few of these guys. they can put on a fight for their size!

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
When the fish are refusing like that, I try to make the streamer look a little more 'twitchy'. Sometimes it seems to help if I switch up the color, too. So if I'm fishing a black or dark green bugger, I'll tie on a white or light tan one. Still the best way to spend a day.

It is still so weird to me that the numbers are printed on the back now.

I agree, but it is way easier to read them now.

Also makes it slightly more difficult to have the number stolen while someone has the card, like in a drive thru, because they can't do the receipt paper impression trick anymore.
