I hate wet wading most of the streams I fish. Too many jaggers and poison ivy. If I look at poison ivy wrong, Ill be covered in it.

    Some really cool shit

The Fly Shop in Redding is a great place. Really nice folks. They've been around for a while. I've used their guide services, and purchased much gear from them. Top shelf.

So how's carpin on a fly rod? We have some oddball flats that I normally use spinning gear for. Any tips on weights and what to use?

Finally got out this morning for my first trip with the fly rod this summer.
Ended up catching around 20. The 14" brown was the best, several 7-9 " bows. About lunch got caught in an awful thunderstorm while being about 3 miles from the truck. Kept these three for dinner. The creek is up in the Pisgah Nat. Forest above Brevard. Snapped a pic of the dead hemlocks that sadly are about all gone. Just noticed one of the little light blue butterflies in the pic.

Spent a couple hours on the Au Sable river. Absolutely perfect day. Only a few finger sized trout to report.

I'm fine with catching the little ones.IMG_20170716_143654836.jpg

I'm not sure what you are asking. CF are bottom dwellers. You sink the bait and wait for the cat fish to slurp up the bait.

For what it's worth, I use fly rods with spinning reels. I don't like the long butt handle on spinning rods. In addition, the large, 1st guide on a spinning rod is annoying. It requires a rod tube 3x bigger than the same rod in a fly rod version.

In short, any fish caught on a fly rod and reel is great fun.

I was playing around with the GPS app on my phone while fishing today. I'm amazed at the info a $10 app provides.Screenshot_20170716-144133.jpg

Yea, well, they caught a monster catfish ripping a streamer on the White River a couple weeks ago. I can only imagine how tbat felt. Probably thought they had a record brown.

I caught a cat on a spinner yesterday. Got me thinking about how much fun it would be if I could have somehow gotten it to hit a fly.
