Gonna take the old man fishin this evening. Don't know if he'll throw the fly rod or not. It's been a couple years since he has gonna try to get him to, though.

Also, gonna try to tie up some hellgrammites. Bought some little rubber ones, figured I could probably tie them to a hook a throw them on a fly rod? Just tie it similar to a squirmy worm.

The same shit everyone else has.
Should work. Build up a dubbing base and slap em over it and tie em down in a few spots.

Has anyone put anymore thought into a fly swap?

    Super glue works lol
Just impale and glue a short piece of wire into the head and tie said wire to hook shank
    Or glue directly to shank
When I've tried to tie plastic baits to hooks the thread will cut the body

As far as hellgrammite patterns go it's hard to beat the original IMG_7056.jpg IMG_7055.jpg

I got a whole box filled with them. It's the first thing I tie on, unless a hatch is coming off.

This is what I bought. Gonna tie a few with some bright threads in order to catch attention, then some with just black thread. Just try a few things out

    Aren't they a little small?

The one around here are like 3-4" long.

I've seen some around here about half the size of the ones I'm using. I think they'll work. We'll see :notsure:

Before anyone says it, I know I could probably just impale the bug with the hook, but what fun is that?

Look up pat cohen. He has some hellgrammite creature bodies that look like they would work really well.

Edit: Your version is probably wayyy cheaper though

I'll see if I can dig some up around here.

Good luck with them. Did you weighty the hook?
