Ya it's a nice place to cool my feet after work lol. I've been doing habitat improvements on our little stretch and it's starting to show :)
I don't usually mess with the trout (native brookies mostly) that reside/move thru it. The coons or an eagle will prolly get that rainbow tho cuz he's too big for the pool and I'm not moving his stocker ass back down to the mainstem to compete with the wild browns and brookies that live there lol

Rod vault finally in. Thing is ridiculous looking on the truck but hoping it pays off on trips and quick fishing trips after work

that reminds me if the pole cam. My friend put a small dv camera on his pole and would get video of fish hitting the bait and the fight too. this was going back 20 years ago!

Did you try/consider mounting it under the crossbar?

I've not yet pulled the trigger one one of these in fear that it would sit too high with my Leer 180 mid-rise.

That's not a bad idea at all! I'll see if it can mount there tomorrow

That would be great! Can you also measure the amount of space/length of bar needed for the mounts? I'm hoping I could mount mine on the bottom of the overhang (outside of the tower like yours) on my Yakima round bars. I think that would prevent interference with my cap door. My tower mounts are much closer to the outer edge of my cap, so the bars overhang some.

Yeah definitely. I had to get longer bars since I'm mounting mine outside as well and I found that I needed to space it further back to clear the cap's door. Originally wanted to place the vault so that the reel cubby was right against the rear bar but it would've required sliding the front and rear towers closer together so that the junction in the middle of the vault doesn't interfere with mounting. Here's the side view showing the cap door open 20170820_120828.jpg

On a side note, I killed my first wild trout this weekend. Accidentally, of course. I cooked him for dinner today. Hands down the best tasting trout Ive ever eaten. Kinda makes me want to eat more of them. Im used to keeping and eating stocked trout only.

Could you mount it with the reel cubby up?

Wilds do taste better. I find the meat on planters to be white and mushy, with very little flavor.

    Thanks TJ!

Too bad that rear box could't fit right up against the back as it looks like there's room to clear your cap door. My bars are fixed (I don't have the track), so my options for placement are limited.

I was amazed how pink the flesh was and how firm it stayed. It didn't have that muddy taste some stocked trout have. I may have to harvest one every once in a while.

    So beautiful God's creatures.
Now how would such a beautiful animal have merely evolved.
No, rather it was created as such!

    Some really cool shit
Ate a wild trout once. Was fishing the Madison, in the Bear Trap canyon. A guy drove into the parking lot in an old beat up Camaro. Lure fishing. He caught a 23 inch rainbow within ten minutes. Then another. As he was walking back to his car he turned to my friends and I, and asked if we wanted one, as he had only come down to catch dinner. Since the dang fish was already dead, we took it. It was like salmon. So pick and tasty.
