    LOL.

I re-glued the soles, ran some screws into them, and covered the toes with toe cap glue for hockey skates.

I really hope I can get another solid month outta them. I just ordered tires for the truck and bought a new TV.....

I also have Patagonia ultra lights and have studs in them. Soles are starting to pull away at about 100 days on the water. Studs dont stay in them very well either....

In my never ending quest for infinite knowledge, I believe I found a solution to salvaging my wading boots and getting more life out of them. The soles are hammered and so are the toe caps. The uppers are in pretty good shape with no splitting seams...

I solved the issues with the toe caps by gooping em up. The uppers should have a lot of life in them. Both the sole and mid sole are separating from the boots, and I believe I figured out how to keep them happy and together for a while longer.

I came across "Rock Treads" on Instagram. They sell a "lock down kit" for installing the Rock Treads into rubber soled boots. The kit is nothing more than T nuts/hurricane nuts and machine screws.

    https://www.rocktreads.com/product/lock-down-kit/

    Bingo.

Which lead me to this and this -

    https://troutbitten.wordpress.com/2015/02/13/diy-bar-boots/

    http://brooksidehillbilly.blogspot.com/2014/11/diy-aluminum-bars-for-your-wading-boots.html

Since the soles are too hammered to hold studs any more, aluminum plates seem to be the solution.

I go to the hardware buy a handful of T nuts, machine screws, and aluminum bar stock to replicate this.

I can sandwich the soles back together with the T nuts and aluminum bars and they should be better than new.

Ive never used aluminum bars, but they sound like they work great.

Does anyone on here wade with the bars versus studs?

I use studs, in a Cabelas boot. They've held up for me well. I've had them at least 5 years, maybe 75 days a year in them. I put new studs in every few months. I do rinse them and make sure they are dry before putting them away.

Forgive me for not knowing how to properly hold a fish...I look like an idiot! Just didn't want to hurt the little guy :p But I was so stoked to catch my first fish on a fly! Been dabbling for the past few years and finally got lucky! This was at Young Lakes high up in Yosemite out of Tuolumne Meadows. So fun, I'm hooked! Can't wait to get out again. Caught four brookies that trip, before I gave the rod to a pal to see if we could teach him on the fly...only to get skunked while they jumped out of the water.
My setup, a lightweight Redington rod and a Taylor reel.

Caught my best wild 'bow yesterday.

The sole on one boot pretty much fell off yesterday while I was hiking back to the the truck,so I performed some surgery today...

Peeled it off the rest of the way and reattached it.

Ive reattached soles on hunting boots with Gorilla Glue before, so it should work fine on these...

Started on my aluminum bars too. Got the non glued boot almost all sorted out. I need to counter sink a few holes a lil deeper.

1"x1/4" aluminum flat stock, 1/4"x20 hardware, and 1/4"x20 T nuts.

I put the insole back in it and walked around, you can barely tell there are T nuts under it. Im gonna work on the other boot tomorrow.

Those aluminum bars are going to be great for walking on rocks. I know how hard my aluminum boats grip the rocks in the river when I hit them. Should be about the same with the aluminum bars.

Thanks for posting the boot rebuild, I will be doing the same.

Nice fish! So what exactly was in the background that would have given away where you were fishing?

Seriously. Awesome stuff. I wish the browns grew like that around here. They water around western Pa isn't built for those kinda fish. They're usually 8-10". The 16" pig I posted a few weeks back is the biggest I've ever caught and I'm betting it's a river run fish.

I gotta go to Roscoe NY. to get browns like that. Most trout are in the 9-15" range. we get a few large trout in the rivers. We do have big lake trout, but i like fishing rivers better

    Steve,
Are those bars what you walk on? Never heard of that.
Have you ever thought about screwing sheet metal screws into the soles?
Thats what I have been doing for years.
Pretty easy to replace when worn.

Interesting, I've not seen that before. My concern would be lateral traction, like walking across a stream and stepping on a rock.
