    exactly.
We are about 2 hours from the steelhead fishing.
water temp is going up so thats a help too. My concern is they are opening up the flow more in anticipation of the spring melt off in the mountains so maybe we will skip this week and go fishing local.

Yeah I had to drive a couple hours to get the reel because I couldn’t decide on the color. Even though it doesn’t make the reel better, the green is sweet in person.

I'm looking to get into freshwater fly fishing. I've done a little reading, where I live, we don't really have trout... For an all around rod, what would you recommend? Most likely fishing for Bass and Bream.

Any recommendations on a starter combo or flies?

Woodrow: 6-7wt maybe up to 8wt. 8-9' long rod. Smallmouth or largemouth bass?? No offense, but what the hell is Bream??? I'm a Yankee!!! Fishing ponds, streams, rivers or what???

PS: Woodrow is one of the names I wanted for my son (Cole), but the wifey put the kibosh to that rather quickly!!!!

Flies: streamers and wooly buggers, possibly crayfish

i would go with an 8wt. poppers and streamers for bass can get sorta large plus pulling them out of the weeds you can use the extra back bone. i started with a 6wt used one season then got a 8wt.

Think I’m getting an echo carbon to put on the sage reel I got. Thoughts?

You’d be better off buying 2 rods for bass then panfish. For bass I’d go 8wt and for just panfish I’d go with a 4wt it’d be to hard to use the flies for both species with a single rod. Unless you went with a 6wt which would still be a little big for pan fish and a little small for largemouth. I use 5wt rods for panfish and trout which the 5wt is still a little big for panfish.

My St. Croix Legend Elite is back for repair. It's the second time going back. First time was because my buddy stepped on my rod while I was discussing the pan of attack on the Spring Dream Stream Rainbow follies. That was a few years ago and St. Croix just replaced the rod tip. This time it's back because my first foot guide broke and my fly line was sneaking though and drooping. At first I could figure out wtf was going on with my fly line.

St. Croix warranty is great. I send them a $20 check and my shit gets fixed, period. I've broken every rod I've ever owned. My Mike (that's me) built a Legend Ultra 5wt. and broke the first section. They sent me a new blank. I have a 3wt Ultra, broke it and got a new tip. My 4wt Ultra (2 pc.) I fell on some riprap and my palm shattered the first section and they replaced it. Great company and I would buy their rods all day long.

I have a 9' 5wt Echo Carbon ($169) with a Echo($79) Ion reel. It was the first fly fishing set-up I bought on the advice of Joe Libeu, FFF Master Certified Casting Instructor, who was giving a fly casting class I attended. Joe thought the Echo gear was the best bang for the buck for a novice, easy on the wallet, pretty decent quality AND a lifetime warranty from a good company. That set-up still fishes great after many years of use and novice abuse! About 3 years ago I put a Sage 4200 reel on the Carbon and lined it with Scientific Anglers Mastery MPX and really liked the way it cast and the weight/balance, feels like a medium-fast rod. The Sage 4200 was recently moved to a different rod so I put the Echo Ion lined with Rio Gold back on that Carbon and still like it a lot! I think the new Echo Carbon rods are now called Carbon XL's.

The Fly Club I joined last week uses the Echo Carbon XL rods for their novice casting classes. When I bought that Carbon I figured I would outgrow it after a year or so and get a better rod when I deserved it. Well I have picked up a few more set-ups since then but the Echo gear stays in the fly fishing line up because it fishes so good!
Good luck and enjoy the new gear!

I think I’m gonna get it for about $100. I’ve got my expensive setup, and my intermediate small setup. I just need an inexpensive rod to go with the free reel

Speaking of reels does anybody have an old 4wt (aluminum not composite please) laying around that they’d take a lil cash for?

Reason im asking is somebody lifted my FIL’s rod outta his toolbox last summer and I’m building him a 7’ 4w glass rod to replace it. Already found a dt4f line yay

Please respond via pm so as not to clutter the thread :)

If anybody’s feathers get ruffled by me dropping this question in a non b/s/t thread just pm me and I’ll pull it no hard feelings

I`m a big fan of the echo line. My 5wt carbon is one of my favorite rods.

Just got my new fly setup ( first one ever!) And I purchased some clear sinking fly line(7wt). Does this clear have horrible line memory? I fish saltwater here in FL and this coils like 80lb mono lol. Any ideas?
