Which line is it? Is it a warm weather line you are trying to use in colder weather? You can try pulling it off the reel and stretching it out, 2-3 ft sections at a time.

I have a sinking line from SA that comes off the reel like a slinky every time... Few good stretches before I start casting and it’s good to go.

Then I also have a Rio Outbound with their 0 stretch connect core that looks like a slinky off the reel... But doesn’t stretch out straight. Still trying to figure out how to fix that one!

Appreciate the tips! I'll deff try stretching it out and see how she does. It has been ~60°F in NW FL where I live so maybe the temp comes into play like someone mentioned.

Well, they didn’t have the echo carbon at the fly shop. He thought he did. Gave me a Redington Classic Trout instead. Gave me the same $100 Deal for it.

I can actually see the flies only, zero creek limit section from where I'm sitting. Wife wanted a day off just visiting with friends that live along the river.

So frustrating knowing myScreenshot_20180210-142648.jpg fishing kit is just steps from where I'm sitting.

Anybody ever “upsize” their reels? Say, put a 5/6 reel on a 3wt or 4wt rod? Have a spare 5/6 sage 3250 and thinking of putting it on a 3 or 4 wt rod. Wonder if it’ll feel odd to use lol.

The only thing preventing this is your tolerance for the the balance of the rod.

To be honest, I would rather buy a reel by how it looks to me. The listed wt. Never seems to apply.

Only rod I've upsized is my 3wt 10' euro nymphing rod. Simply for better counter balance. Went with a 5/6 reel instead of 3)4.

According to some sources, you MAY be able to go up or down one reel size with acceptable results. This is why you at times see 5/6wt reels or 3/4wt reels. As long as the line wt and rod wt match, one size up or down reel may not be bad.

Sometimes it's just preference too. I fish a 3wt 10ft. Syndicate nymphing rod with 4wt line. It seems to have better control than the lighter 3wt line.

I think in general, rods now are becoming faster/stiffer so many may be overloading with line (+1 size) to simply feel the road loading. Just a guess.

    You got that right!

I have rods of the same wt by different manufactures. They are completely different rods. I swear they just threw a dart and that was the wt label that gets attached.

I think G Loomis is the worst. I have a 10wt for salt water. Myself and others swear it's no more than a 7-8.

there is def. a difference in rods from each compnay. You have to cast them before you buy one. there is even a noticable difference from lower models to top end models from the same company.
