I do that same thing on my longer euro nymphing leaders.

I just tie the loop on the fly line. I’ve caught 100’s of salmon on the same loop with no issues. It takes one knot out of the equation. I started loop 2 loop between leader sections as well, and blood knot the tippet on. Once they are pulled tight, they cast fine.

    Correct.

I use/make my own furled leaders, so loop to loop is a must to attach them.

I think he was using mono. That guy can cast 200+' with pretty good accuracy! He spends a few weeks a year in the US competing but has yet to fish any US water, I find that as amazing as his casting skills!

    Artwork right there...pleasure to watch.

I find myself (unknowingly) using spey techniques with my one handed rods. Mainly with quick direction changes.

Speaking of ruffed grouse skins. I still have a couple left over. Anyone interested?

I don't tie, but trade & barter various skins with friends & local tiers.

Gonna have to read into this thread.
I used to compete in fly casting back when I was in 8th grade for the under 18.
Cast 92 feet with a 5 weight. Would cast with Steve Rajeff. Won a sweet custom distance echo rod.
Then I got caught into high school life and was fishing here and there. Was best in the west for under 18 haha.
    Stopped the competing.
Fast forward to now, 25 I'm getting back into it. Just bought reddington's 5-6 WT behemoth reel. Its arriving today. I really like the look of it and the reviews weren't bad for the price.

That being said, anyone have a recommendation on a 6 weight fly rod? I want it to be versatile. I usually fish small streams in the sierras but am starting to nymph fish lakes more often.
Also, it looks like the Rio lines are pretty affordable.
I have some reels and lines but its all old and I want a nice set up to get going again.
