It really is a perfect small river system. Simple too.

So are there specific manufacturers of Tenkara? Or are the big players also in the market?

I often bushwack into small river systems....having something so compact would make things so much easier.

There are US companies that have equipment. Their stuff are usually copies of the Japanese stuff.
And then there are authentic Japanese rods. The one I am looking to get (in the cart right now :D) is a Nissin zerosum360 6:4 rod. What I am reading is that it is the golden fleece of tenkara rods.
The US stuff is good. I have a TenkaraUSA rod that I really like, but I haven't tried anything better honestly. I think it is time.

That Nissin is right around $250. Not too bad.

    Yeah, thanks buddy. o_O

    :D
I am pretty psyched to let the line fly on this thing. Can't wait.
How long do things take to ship from Japan? :playball:

I sold a real on ebay to a buyer in Japan is it took less than 10 days to be delivered.

Lines seem much less expensive too....the more I look the more intrigued I become.

Yes! So much simpler than tradition fly rod/reel - yet really doing the same exact thing.

    Pretty much.
I catch the same fish you western guys are catching. :D
The flies are slightly different, but I do use regular flies often.
Will say, a fish on a tenkara rod is a rush. And you get to feel the fish better. It turns into a dance more than a fight. It is kinda cool.

DRAGONtail tenkara is not bad entry level stuff. You can get a rod for $100.
The Maxcatch stuff is okay. Heavy. They are copies of real tenkara rods.
Tenkara Rod Co. is pretty legit. The owner has spent lots of time in Japan to learn. Their rods are also copies, but not bad. Good entry level stuff. I have a sawtooth. I really like it more than other ones I have.

I'm guessing casting is pretty similar?

Kind of. imo, the back cast is different. Obviously no line to contend with. I can get to where I can place the fly exactly where I want it in the river. The accuracy is kinda cool. The forward cast is the essential part. If you beast it, the fly goes nowhere quick. The better the flow and rhythm (much like western) the better. I find those great casts that I make are the ones that I didn't think about.
