I really like the sock/sleeve. It's a stretchy material with no open ends. It's got a slit toward the end that you slide the handle end into then strech the other end over the rod tip (with caps).

Short Lillian...it's 1.5"....but should be fine.

I am pretty sure the regs here in NH define what constituents flyfishing and tenkara doesn't fit the definition. There's even some question about czech nymphing being legal in ffo waters.

Lots of confusion here in ME too on that. Especially with weighted nymph rigs that aren't really "casted"...just flicked. Sometimes it's simply up to the Wardens discretion at the time it seems.

    They aren’t much higher here.

    Rod condom FTW!
That lillian looks about the length of mine.

Wait...o_O those two sentences don't really go well together. Oh well. :D (where is that shrug emoji?)

May get out there today. Went to a couple of my favorite rivers last week, water was running hard and a good amount of ice on the edges still.

Interesting. When I get a chunk of time, I want to look into this.

This is a post from one of the guides in the area:

T.S. Elliot said that "April is the cruelest month". That bit of prose certainly applies to the trout fishing scene here is central Massachusetts where we have been bitten by high cold flows and trout with a case of lockjaw. It reminds me of 2015 which had even higher flows along with cold temperatures.

I braved the 23 degree temperature and high wind to hit the WB of the Westfield. I was forced to take some detours due to trees on the roads. The WB was roaring away at just below 600 cfs and in my two hours there I got no runs, no hits and no errors. As I write the flow is down into the mid 300 range which is nearing perfect for this stream.

All the streams are being stocked and I think it's a bit earlier than last year. Pick a river, tie on something heavy and go shake the rust off. In a month we will be starting the dry fly season and I'm not talking about midges but good old traditional mayflies. That's what we wait all winter for, right???

New Hampshire definition of fly-fishing per 2018 regs.

Fly-fishing: Fishing by trolling or casting with only fly rod, fly reel, and fly line combination with an artificial fly or cast of artificial flies attached, and does not include the use of spinning, spincast, and casting rods and reels and lead core lines.

Maine (a bit more open to interpretation)

Casting upon water and retrieving in a manner in which the weight of the fly line propels the fly.

Interesting. Lots of room for interpretation. I suppose, if you wanted to be a dick, you could just zip tie a reel to a tenkara rod. :anonymous:

Yup...that reel requirement seems to be the kicker.

    I updated with Maine....

So no trolling with fly in Maine on FFO water. Can't even let the wind push a canoe/boat because then it's trolling as the fly line is no longer propelling the fly. Have to anchor.

Lots of heated debates on the ME FF forums on this subject.
