My family and I will be making a trip to Yellowstone in the beginning of June and was looking for a little help on some good rivers and maybe fly selection. I’ve never fished for trout but fly fish for panfish and small mouths all summer long so not really sure what flies I will need out there. We will be camping in West Yellowstone and will spending a bunch of time in between there and Dubois, I’d. I don’t expect you guys to tell me exactly where to go but if I could get a starting point would be greatly appreciated. I’ll only be able to fish early mornings for 2-3 hours while the rest of my family gets ready for the days. Thanks for any advice you guys are willing to give.

Might have to focus on lakes cuz runoff.
I think the firehole stays fishable during the melt

One of my favorite fishing memories is blundering into a big cutty with an irresistible adams on Yellowstone lake. I was 13 and snuck away from the campsite one evening when this happened

I would start communicating with /ordering flies from one of the fly shops in the area. They can give u the best info :)

That was one of my big concerns was the runoff. I’ve heard that it might be ok or it still might be bad that time of year. Another thing I was thinking about was taking my fishing kayak to fish some lakes. Do you know if you can have a kayak on Yellowstone lake? I’m assuming you can but just want to double check.

Anywhere inside the park,, and almost anywhere outside the park. Some of the best trout fishing in the world is right there. Stop in a fly shop in West Yellowstone and get flies and advice. Talk to rangers in the park for more advice.Tight lines.:jellydance:

Swung a brace of nymphs (size 14 caddis and a size 18 baetis) in the riffle of some local stocked water. Pellet heads loved the little nymphs. 0A998196-E540-46CF-B046-A6381300330A.jpg5DD8CAE0-0C79-4766-B3DF-ED89D44B4FE5.jpg
