I just place them (all 9') on my back seat broken down in half

 

You can get strips of Velcro to make hoops and tighten them together when in two pieces. Mounting the hoops is the hard part if you plan to do that. Something that may be better is the cheap bungie ball loops you get from harbor freight.

I have a softopper and rig bungie hoops from the internal softopper frame and carry 4 rods this way. I use Velcro to hold the broken down pieces together while they are in the bungie hoops. Quick and easy and very inexpensive.

maybe you can rig something similar on the underside of your tonneau without drilling…?

That's a good idea, I've already got a bunch of bungie cord laying around. There are a couple cross bars on my roll up tonneau that should work. I'll post some photos if I can get it to work

Thick fish! Pretty, too. They don’t look like that down here…Neosho strain smallmouth have much less depth to their bodies (and grow slowly). Miss catching those northern smallies.

 

I should have taken some pictures but I caught my first fish on a fly in probably a year...two small blue gill! haha I used an Amazon special blue damselfly fly since they were out like crazy on Saturday.

I've got a new kayak on the way and a trip to Maine coming up so I'm hoping to catch some bass on the fly soon.

 

I picked up the oem Toyota bars and made this for an upcoming trip I have with my brother. It should be perfect for bouncing up a river without re rigging but not something I'd trust for a road trip. The tip ends will be Velcrod to the topper and hanging out the rear... Gotta have strong struts too in the glass to hold it up.... It's a cheap temporary solution though

 

Did a 3-day rafting/camping/fly fishing trip down the Black Canyon on the Gunnison in mid-June and just got back from a Missouri River (MT), Land of the Giants and Madison trip. Hell of a summer so far.

how burly is the whitewater in the black canyon? I’ve always wanted to fish the salmonfly hatch there and I’d like to bring the super puma lol

 

Not terrible but I’d say challenging if you don’t know the river. Hell, even guides can have a bad day…..

I lost a 5wt Scott Radian when we got stuck but got a hell of a story from the experience.

Where'd the boat go?

 

Brookies at 10k we’re fun. Caught 3 like this. All the fish caught were healthy. Some not as big and pretty as this one.

 

The other guides in our group and a couple others used a rope and carabiners to essentially winch it off the rock but we had to flip the boat in the process. It's not in the picture but is upside down in the rapids closest to where the picture was taken.

Next up was when they tossed us the throw bag, we had to hold onto the rope, jump into the rapids and then get pulled to shore one by one......

 

I fished the Uncompahgre in Montrose last weekend. I Was limited on time as we hiked through the black Canyon on a couple trails inside the park with my wife's aunt. I'm going to have to go back over there for some more fishing soon.

 

Had one hit the chubby and another hit the dropper today. 2 fish one cast for the second time ever. Luckily they weren’t big since I was throwing my 3 wt

 

Took my 3 weight fly rod to the harbor today and managed a 20" Corbina to the sand. C&R
