Christmas came early! I've been wanting to upgrade my old Redington SVII for awhile now. I'm so excited to hit the water with this beast.

 

Back from an annual trip with friends to the San Juan. Discharge was about twice what it normally is this time of year due to low flows on the Animas, and they are also releasing some from an alternate location at the dam. That seemed to affect clarity and temperature a bit, in addition to spreading out the fish some, but on the positive side also seemed to temper the crowds. We adjusted, and while the week started a little slow, we did well over all. Went out a day early this year, which allowed for a few hours on the Cimarron and the Rio Grande, as well as some different scenery on the way over. Good times and good fishing!


It was my buddy's turn to drive this year…his Tacoma’s first trip to NM.



Had a “little” success on the Cimarron.


And some nice vistas on the Rio Grande.


Then it was on to the San Juan.


Wound up with a lot of these…


…and a few of these.


Had a two-footer half in the net one afternoon, but not the right half. My buddy took this one right before the hook finally pulled.



And I was there to snap these for him. He closed things out on a high note with this 22-incher…caught on his favorite bamboo rod. Great end to a great week!

Make sure the clicker gear. Whatever they call it is really tight. I had it come off while fighting a large fish and almost lost the spool. Adding some blue loctite is recommended.

covered about 6 miles of backcountry water and wifey ran shuttle and took me out to dinner lol

Caught 3 missed 5 one of which was easily over 20". Anyone know why they are carrying eggs this time of year?

 

Spent damn near all summer exploring and fishing, and can't wait to get out fishing again.

Back from an annual trip to the Norfork River in Arkansas with friends last weekend. The OKC Navy turned out again for a few days of floating, fishing, food, and fun. Had hoped to squeeze in an EOY smallmouth trip, too, but the water temps had already dipped a little low for that. The browns were elusive this trip, but the rainbows (and one beautiful brookie) were plentiful. Here’s a few pics from the trip.


We got joined by a few extra friends one day. Turned around and there they were swimming from the other side of the river.



And it’s official…hopper brown catch from August is enshrined on the wall at Dally’s. Will never forget that fish.

Wish my hands and eyes let me ty 18's and smaller again!!! Used to be able to do 22's. Now 16's are my smallest....it's hell getting old!!

 

It will happen to me someday. Age is God’s way of humbling us. I had lasik so I prolonged the process of my vision degrading…I hope
