Many years ago I left the right coast and headed out to Bishop, CA. Back east I would occasionally get into big trout but it wasn't nearly as often as out here.

Anyway, I take a rest day from climbing and decide to hit up a local reservoir. It's known for big browns and 'bows. The banks are steep and the trail sits about 50' above the water. I'm walking along looking for rises or any signs of movement. It's dead still and the water is glass. Then I see it. The largest fucking trout I'll ever catch. Then I see another. And another. Fuck yeah. I'm just about to start running down the bank and dropping lines when I take a closer look.

    Fucking Carp. lol

My son caught his first 2 trout on a fly this weekend!!!! Around 12" which is typical for the stocked fish in Pa. Had 2 more almost to the net, but, lost both -IMG_20220514_135340_2.jpg IMG_20220514_135411_2.jpg that is something he needs to work on yet. The old man caught 1 the first day then turned to coaching Cole. Fished a little the second day then went back to coaching again.

just put the finishing touches on this rod and tube. It’s a retirement present for a former coworker :)
No-name blank and the tube is made from cherry and wormy chestnut

edit: looking at the pic I just realized I forgot to put poly on the end of the tube inside the lid

No. It's not a fly. If the wind wasn't blowing at 25 MPH it might have been. But, truth be told, my jig rod set-up gets more fish then my flyrod. Unless there's a dry hatch occurring. lol

Indeed. Golden's are my favorite fish. This trip put 6 to hand and I missed about a dozen short strikes. I also had a "Holy shit that was a big fish" moment. Just as I was lifting my jig out of the water a 20+" golden came streaking out from under the rock I was standing on. He saw me and turned back to the deep. lol

I've been fly fishing for over 40 years. It's not a lack of practice. lol

For the alpine lakes I fish a 10' mini-jig rod will put more fish to hand then a fly rod 99% the time. If I want a nice relaxing day the fly rod comes out and I can just zone out on the metronome action of casting and mending. If I want to catch fish the jig rod comes out.

Lots of dust and custom dents, Check Build
    Lame! :p

Tie a little streamer on the fly rod in those mountain lakes if there's no top water action.
