Glad we can agree we both can still learn something. I used to internet argue but it's not nearly as fun now.

By the way, I save wood duck and turkey feathers every season. Have shared with fly fishermen from Florida to Niagra falls and even California. Plenty of darn nice folks. Glad to send you some if you tie flies. There really is no substitute for wild wood duck flank and turkey makes some good flies too beyond the obvious stuff like hopper and caddis wings. I use slips of the tail feathers to wrap and build stone bodies. I also save hooded merganzer flank since it makes some good streamer cheeks. It's the stuff in the left side box.

I understand you probably prefer streamer fishing and are not so worried about hacked up floating lines, long leaders and dead drifts. Ha!

Stepped on my fly box last night so I customized this $3 harbor freight special. Cut the dividers out with a Dremrel and fit some packing foam in it. Pretty happy with it.

Feel free to next day air me some Woodie breast this season. Don't need the fur but that meat is hands down the best duck meat in North America. When I was back east I had the freezer full of Woodie meat at all times. Since moving out to Cali I've been on a wood duck less diet. It sucks. lol

Rad man. I just checked the South Carolina Migratory Regs for this season. 3 Woodies is very nice. I was also surprised to see 2 Blacks. Last time I gunned duck Blacks where off limits completely. Good to see them making a comeback.

Don't see blacks here much but hear they are more common in low state. We ain't exactly in the fly way here in the piedmont area. Mostly just beaver pond hunting for us. Good to run up on another woodie admirer. Fine eating and the best catskill style wing material. Sure enough, PM me if anyone wants some primo flank feathers, also have a ton of the white black tip barred stuff which noone around here uses.

Was doing a little exploring for some fishing holes today and came across this. Google says it is a blue jay feather? Might be a sign to make my first fly out of it.

Yes blue jay. Careful, it's a songbird and probably protected as a result.

Swung it a few times in the front yard and oh my. So much better. Doesn’t curl, slides through the guides with ease. Can’t wait to hit the water.

Quite the stud of a dink you got there. Since we are on the topic of small fish.20190824_173627.jpg

Nice. Think I can compete in the small fish category.

Even have an entry for oddities. A "silver" brown trout. Had a 35mm pic of a 4" "blue" rainbow but it seems to have been lost to time.

Ohio trout fishing is tough. I did find a contact that pointed me to a spot that gets stocked 2 times in fall and once in the spring. Although not the trout I was after, it was an amazing place. I signed up to volunteer help stock coming up in October.

Have been fly fishing in central and northern Maine for almost 50 years. Catch and release. (But I do take pics of the bigger ones.) My brother in California fishes regularly for native Goldens' in the remote places where you have to hike in. He ties his own flies, and keeps me supplied. (they work!)

Clear Fork I think is what it’s called. Where I was wasn’t too far from this river.
