Spitfire, developed by Don Gappin who also created the muddler minnow. The spitfire isn't as famousas the muddler, Gappin won the Field and Stream largest brook trout contest with the Muddler and the rest is history. The spitfire though is also a verry effective fly and simple to tie. Segment of red goose quill for a tail, black chenille body brown hackle palmered through chenille and guinie hen for a collar. Fish it as you would a wooly bugger , tied smaller as a nymph or as a wet fly/streamer. I often use it as a dropper with a streamer when trolling with the canoe.

Thought I would start the new year off on a different foot this year and fish my own state for a change. IMG_2250.jpg IMG_2251.jpg IMG_2253.jpg IMG_2256.jpg IMG_2259.jpg
Although I’m probably standing in Georgia for the bridge picture. I haven’t fished sc in about two years until a couple weeks ago.

No problem I don’t ever get bent out of shape about such things. I share locations and what I was using if someone asks.

Found a great deal on an Orvis Clearwater 9’ 8wt. Going to pair it with Maxcatch Eco large arbor reel (rainbow trout print)

Going to give a go at the steelhead runs in northeast Ohio.

This was one of my stops on the way back from a transport last year. I fished the beaverkill one morning. The funny part to me was while in the fly shop grabbing a few flys getting a little intell my accent makes it fairly obvious I’m not from NY. The guy in the shop asked where I was from I explain and he asks do you ever fish the Nantahala. And I had about two weeks before and had a really good day and was showing him pictures and he’s wanting to fish down here. I’m tickled to be fishing his local spot and he wants to come down this way and fish places I take for granted. IMG_0655.jpg IMG_0644.jpg IMG_0653.jpg IMG_0650.jpg

Those signs are really neat. I fished the headwaters of the Beaverkill once - small brookies. Many Moons ago.

Not me, but my dad trout bummed for some years in his retirement. Fished Battenkill, Beaverkill, E fork of deleware etc. Said New York out of city was nice and people were too. Fished 9 states and Canada one year at the height of his trips. Hope to do that myself in a few more years. I spend some time in E TN tail waters every year now to fill my kick. Spent a lot of time in NC, the few wild SC streams and a couple VA streams for some years. Still do a walkabout once in a while. 4.5 acre pond in back yard too.

My wife is president of our local rescue and I do a lot of the transport. And I take wrong turns on the way home and I always have my gear with me. I’ve fished the battenkill as well this past year I was carrying nonresident annual fishing license's to 5 states. I never know where I’m going to end up on my way back. I’m heading to VT again Friday night but I will probably come back into Virginia to fish this trip.IMG_2464.jpg
If you ever see this parked in a stream access somewhere it’s probably me say hi.

Big fan of the Echo line. I have their 9' 5wt and 10' 3wt. How do you like their Streamer rods? I've been thinking about getting one dedicated to larger trout and smallmouth, but have a hard time deciding on size.
