I do this after every trip with my spinning rods. I use mono on them and line twist gets pretty bad by the end of the day. So I put a bearing swivel on one end and walk out 150% of my normal casting distance and pull, I reel in under slight tension and the bearing swivel pulls all that twist out.
Ill have to give it a try on my fly rod before spending the money on new line. But I'll have to wait, its currently 36 degrees out :(

And I would suggest practicing a couple knots instead of the snaps you mentioned earlier. I use the improved clinch knot, the double surgeon and occasionally a blood knot but not often.

Old timers would take an out of season reel, strip the line off and hang line in large loops over a big wooden dowel. Stretching the line helps with coils too. You can do it yourself or by fighting big fish or trying to free a fly from a snag.

Participated in my first fly swap. Got some hand tied leaders with it too. Pretty cool experience.

This past Saturday's Pa. trout season opener turned out to be a total bust....With all the early to mid-week rain, ALL the creeks I passed on my way to camp on Thursday were totally blown out!!! They were chocolate brown, had white water and were way over their banks (one stretch was at least 10 times as wide as normal for this time of year). Called my son from camp and told him to reschedule his vacation days due to weather (was cold, rainy, and snowy) and water conditions. On my way home Monday, the streams were more fishable, but were most of the trout washed out downstream?? Anyway, during one 100 yard stretch of road paralleling Big Sandy Creek, I saw 3 mature bald eagles perched above the water looking for trout too!!!!

Man you guys are lucky to have water. Our snow pack is looking pitiful and will likely bring a pile of closures again this year.

Murphy’s law is still in effect. This is what happens when you drop your tying scissors on your hardwood floor.

Fishing report - traveling just overt the VA line into WV and thought I'd embarrass myself with fly rod. South Branch of Potomac was deep enough and had decent action, but the South Fork of the South Branch was pretty low. Found some rocky spots with pools but most wasn't worth it.

First time using Korkers and the rocks shredded the back of the boots, didn't notice until afterwards and now can't change out cleats unless using a bunch of duct tape. Totally pissed.

On a positive note - ran into Mossy Creek in Harrisonburg VA. They kindly gave me some local recs which I will check out next time. A great fly shop and they have tours as well.

I know it’s been discussed here before. Where are people buying flies if they don’t have the time to tie or need a fly they can’t tie. We have one “local” shop that I know ties but it’s a bit over 1 hour each way and it’s not in my travel route typically.

Finally got some info on the fly trip that I am taking this coming weekend. We are fishing the Lester River right in Duluth off lake Superior. We are going for steelhead, so larger than the trout I am used to catching at the local stocker lake.
I will have to grab a new license saturday when I gas up to drive north.
