Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
Around here (and I believe mostly everywhere) if you catch a snakehead, you are supposed to kill it and notify the DNR. They are a highly invasive species. That's why I asked. It looks similar. I have never come across one here in SC, but I know they are spread up the east coast and some other places. Only time I saw one alive was in NJ.

If there is a song in my head while fishing 90% of the time its this one and its been this way for years. Not sure how/why this came to be.

Hey guys, my lady friend is wanting to try and get into fly fishing. I do all other types of fishing except fly fishing haha so im illiterate when it comes to weights, lengths, and all that kinda stuff. we'll be fishing mostly in creeks and small rivers that are maybe 15-20 yards wide. any advice on what rod weights/lengths and whatever else ill need to get started? also im pretty sure the target fish would be smallies and trout.

I'm no expert, but for small creeks, and dinky trout, a very light rod is best. 3 or 4 wt. Maybe less. But that rod probably isn't going to be good with bass, which require a stronger hook set, stiffer rod.

There are several guys on this thread that fish a LOT. I'm sure they'll chime in soon, with more specific tips. Stand by.

A nice 5 weight is great for just about anything trout...unless you are chucking huge fuzzy things. If you fish bass a lot I used to have a 7 weight that worked well but I didn't try to cast monstrous flies.

ok now, whats monstrous mean to yall? I do most of my fishing offshore trolling and dropping 12oz of lead 200ft down. with casting I consider a bucktail to be heavy not necessarily monstrous though. I know flys are typically tiny. told ya I was fly illiterate! haha

I was fortunate enough to cast to some monsters like that in Belize, last year. Unfortunately, the weather was bad, and we were not able to spot the fish in time to get a good cast out there.
