Hit up a local creek last weekend. Took the fly rod and the spinning rod with me. Caught this little guy with the fly rod

Hit another hole where they wouldn't touch any flies I threw at them, so I put a J9 jointed Rapala on the spinning gear and ended up pulling in this Slab. 24.5" and 6.1 lb.

Didn't know this thread existed. Was out at the Salmon River on Friday and a tiny creek open year round on Sunday but skunked both times. Got tired of just tying and watching videos and my buddy was free so we figured we'd give it a try but the flow rate at SR was too high and nothing was active in the creek. Not the best time of year for NY!

Anyone else fish upstate NY at all?

    Awesome fish.

You guys are always posting pics of monster fish while I post pics of 8" brookies. Maybe this summer I'll get lucky enough to get into some big central PA limestome wild browns. Until then, heres a some more native brookies from this past weekend. They were more than eager to take #14 Royal Wulffs.

    Beautiful fish!

I get just as much enjoyment chasing small native brookies in small remote streams as I do catching the big ones.

The majority of fish I catch are smaller brookies. A lot of fun and easy to catch up here. Plus I think brookies taste the best.

It's not about the size, mate...

I'm happy as long as I'm catching fish.

No doubt. I love fishin for em.

Nothing beats having miles of stream all to myself without another person anywhere near me. Its taken me to some of the most beautiful places in western PA. Catching a fish almost every cast is pretty fun too.

Took my new Tenkara rod out this morning. Bought this for hiking really. This was the nicest rainbow of the morning and the rod was solid. Loved being able to walk back to the truck with it collapsed to 18" too.

Nice! I was checking out this Tenkara set-up on MassDrops, $99 for a complete first timer rig. Thinking about it for use while backpacking the John Muir Trail and other Sierra treks. I've taken my regular fly gear before but I'd rather shed some of that weight and try this Tenkara action. Any advice on what to look for when buying a Tenkara rig?

Yeah I use to carry an orvis Clearwater with an access reel hiking and it was bulky in my bag. I actually bought the Teton package through Tenkara rod co. This is only the 8' rod but it does the trick for sure. Some rods will collapse smaller than it, but at 18" it fits perfectly on the side of my hiking pack in the aluminum case it comes with. I know people that have rods from Tenkara USA as well and they're well built too.
