Fished the McCloud Tuesday evening, all day Wednesday, and Thursday morning. Had to get to Dunsmuir on Thursday evening to watch my Golden State Warriors. Fished the Upper Sac on Friday.
No fish pictures. May have one from a guy I met on the McCloud, but I had my hands full wading and catching, so no fish pics.

Here's a picture of Lake Shasta from yesterday if anyone was curious how the lake looks after several years of drought. Yes, we had a nice winter, for a change.

Traffic sucked around Dunsmuir on the way there. Hay truck caught fire, so CalTrans and Fire Dept closed Interstate 5 North. When I finally made camp a beer was mandatory.

I loved my Orvis Super Tackle Pack vest back in the day. Now I use chest /sling packs.

I had wondered about a sling pack. Looks like a good idea. How is it with casting, netting, etc?

I use the digital camo one from Orvis. It's bigger that it looks. I hike miles with this and a backpack when guiding clients in the backcountry. Works well for me.

It's swings out of the way when you don't need it.

Not really a direct answer about a vest per se, but I stopped using a vest years ago and now I only use sling packs. I feel too restricted with a vest and the sling pack solves that. Hiking into remote ponds, it's totally out of the way. And wading its totally out of the way when not needed and with a quick pull, you have access to everything. I like the Orvis Safe Passage sling pack (now discontinued). My old one wore out last season and this past winter I was able to miraculously locate one at the local Orvis outlet in Freeport, ME. It holds everything I need including sunglasses and a light snack/lunch.

This is the one that replaced the Safe Passage that I have. It's bigger than mine, but of the same quality no doubt.

It does lack the D ring for attaching a net. I just tuck my net under my wading belt along my back. Works fine for me and I don't even know it's there anymore. As far as casting...it may be in my head, but I feel less encumbered with the sling pack, so casting seems much easier.

What do you guys think of this?
Kinda like the features in the front of the strap. Simple in the main pouch.

For me, even those small pouches on the front would bother me. ..but that's just me. I kinda like the "commando" feeling now with only a strap out front. Patagonia does make nice stuff though.

Caught several good fish. That was probably the biggest by an inch or 2. Most were around this sizeimage.jpg
