I do, but I am fishing tenkara style. Have read some stuff online about how to make them and figured I would let someone else make them.
Really like the 11' Cutthroat tapered leader I have. Have seen that there is a titanium line out too. Curious about that.
You got me thinking about using my tenkara leaders on my new western style fly rod set up. Wonder if the fly fishing gods above will strike me down with a bolt from the heavens for doing so.

The same shit everyone else has.
I used this for all my info - http://furledleaders.co.uk/pdf/how-to-make-a-furled-leader.pdf

The ones I whipped up tonight turned out better than yesterdays. Im gonna fish a few of them Saturday and see how goes.

I can get about 6 leaders out of a 200yd spool of 8/0 thread which costs about 3$. I need to get larger tippet rings. The 2mm ones I have are almost too small.

I whipped up a few more tonight, even better than last nights. I think I finally got the right amount of furling time figured out for each step.

Fun morning in the western mountains of Maine. Drove as far as I could and then bushwhacked my way towards the headwaters of some mountain streams in search of cool water with my 3wt and fishing buddy tagging along.

Looks like a nice day Mark. Went to test out my new western set up with my son at a field with a playground.
Bit different of an approach to casting than the tenkara. Was very fun to try to get it out as straight and delicately as possible.

Is the casting stroke different between the two? I've no experience with Tenkara.

The back cast is much deeper or longer, not sure what the right term is. And the forward cast feels like it needed much more speed than I was giving it. With the tenkara the back cast is only about to 12 o'clock and then the forward is very delicate and not forced.
It seemed like my best casts (the straightest line ones) has some good rod speed attached. Is that how it should be?
Oh, it is a 9ft 6wt, for reference.

Yah.. you do need that acceleration and then a quick stop. Think of those tennis ball chuckers for dogs....you accelerate it and then quickly stop....the energy is transferred to the ball and off it goes.

Back and forward cast should be the same. Generally...the less line the shorter the stroke...more line...longer stroke.

Takes a while to get the feel. To really feel the rod loading, you generally need about 30' of line.

Orvis has some great YouTube videos.

Ah, great idea for the feel, one of those chuckers. Yes, I can see (feel) that.
Yeah, I noticed the length of line. I was experimenting with different lengths to see what would happen. Was so cool to get it out where I wanted it. Was so much fun. Can't wait to get it in the water now. :D

I am so glad that I am finally doing this. I did a bike ride across Montana. When we went through Ennis, someone told me that it was the fly fishing mecca. Have always wanted to try it since then. That was about 15 years ago.

Some lines have a color change at about the 30' mark...that marks the load point.

I need to do a Western trip some day!

 Oh, wow. Did not know that. The line I got is a WF, I didn't notice anything when I was spooling the reel.

Yeah, would be awesome to go out there.
Have you ever been into Canada to fish? There is a guide that goes to the Miramirchi (sp) once a year. Would love to go there. My grandfather grew up on that river.

SA lines don't have it, RIO does.

I've not been to Canada either. A Labrador trip is on my bucket list!
