    Hi All,
I have been fly fishing on and off all of my life.
My Grandfather introduced me to it some 45 years ago in Northern Wisconsin. I now return to the same place with my wife and kids once a year and I go solo once a year with just uncles and cousins. They happen to enjoy good Scotch, bourbon and fly fishing as well so it's a great trip.
My wife and I honeymooned in Sun Valley Idaho and rented an Orvis guide one day. He was happy to teach my wife ( she's hot) while I went upstream and caught dozens of tiny rainbows.
I now live in middle TN. and one of the reasons I purchased a Tacoma was to explore more of the trout streams in the Smokies with my 3 sons.
I'm headed back to Wisconsin next month for a few days of trout fishing, traveling light with a 4wt, 5wt and 6wt.
I bring the 6wt because after cocktail hour we usually go out on one of the big lakes and pop for large mouths and pike. The pike can get upwards of 40 inches but usually hover around 30-35.
    Best to all.

The above images are an idea I got off the web and modified using quick fists.
As you all know, breaking down fly rods only to travel a few miles up or downstream is a pain in the ass.
The base are suction cups from Harbor Freight with some small pieces of wood attached to allow the quick fists to attach.
I safely travel at 50 MPH with these.
Total materials is under $20.00 with about an hour of tinkering in the garage.
I have other with PVC when I fish with the whole family as we then have up to 7 rods.
These are for my solo trips

The BWO/Rubber leg combo killed it this evening. 8 or 9 to the net and 4 or 5 missed in less than an hour.

Brown's Camp @ Benton Crossing on labor Day. The Owens River was way too crowded and much too warm for fishing but there were still lots of fly fishing going on despite the bad conditions.

I was headed up to Virgina Lakes area and stopped by for a look (can't resist a river check when driving the 395 N)

So I have been interested in fly fishing for a while, like half my life. But I've always thrown live bait and plastics. This summer I bought a Redington path combo 9ft 5wt. Then I bought a cabelas CGR 6" 2wt last week when they were on sale plus the labor day discount I had, it was irresistable. I'm planning to learn to cast in the yard all winter, already signed up for orvis 101 and talked to the local guys at the shop up the way for a casting lesson. Any advice for a beginger I'm all ears. Looking forward to next Spring to buy a license and make this happen.

As my friend said to me when I told him I was getting into fly fishing, he said, "It's frustratingly fun." :D
I started fly fishing this past summer on a tenkara style set up and have since purchased one more (7:3) and a western style set up.
    It is addicting.
I am sure you'll have fun with it.

Congrats for taking up fly-fishing. Sounds like your on the right track reaching out to Orvis with that class as well as local fly shops. This will prevent formation of bad habits. Much of fly-fishing is muscle memory & feel. I'd recommend learning on that 9' 5wt. Its much easier to cast and you'll get a much better feel for the rod/line action/loading than you will with that lightweight outfit.

As a beginner....casting accuracy is WAY more important than distance. A lesson that still applies to experienced anglers.

So my mom likes to get a jump on Christmas shopping. She asked what I wanted this year. I told her a fly tying kit.

Guess I need to start learning how to tie...
