I've got the 6'6" 2 weight and it's a fun little rod for brookies. They load really well. Just gotta get used to slowing your cast way down from graphite. I get a little excited sometimes.

All of my small stream rods are short glass or slow old graphite!

I mostly fish super stiff 8 and 9 weights for striper, so going back to small stream fishing takes a little while to get the trout stroke back haha!

Really interested in playing with the 7/8 glass rod with some stripers this Fall/Winter!

This one was from a few years ago on an old Berkley 6/7 glass rod I found in my parent's basement... It only lasted one fish, but it was an awesome fight!!!

I've got the 7/8 and it's a really fun rod for pond bass fishing. IMO, it's a little short for bigger waters, but I've used it for smallmouth on the river too.

That's the setting I really got it for... Small ponds and a few of the smaller river/creek bass floats in the spring!

The same shit everyone else has.
Mine showed up yesterday. Spent a few minutes yard casting it with WF4W line. Super smooth and just slow enough. I cant wait to use it.

Im super tempted to order another. Either the 5'9" 3w or the 6'2" 2w.

Orvis has their Access Mid arbor reels and spools on sale right now!

I just picked up their 7-9 weight model (regularly $179) for $109! Ended up picking up an extra spool with it too... Also on sale, for $59. Free shipping on $150+ purchases as well.

All the reviews I've read are really good for the Access reels. Looking forward to using it with the Cabelas CGR 7/8 rod I ordered last week for $54!

It's a good reel for sure. Two spools is a must for swapping between floating and sinking line quickly.

I love my CGR! It has become my new favorite. I tote that now over my Orvis Helios and Superfine (non glass, older Trout Bum) rods.

Awesome to hear! I figured even if they were a wet noodle to cast, at under $60, at least they'd make a good loaner rod... So I'm not letting noobs sling intermediate lines and heavy clousers with my expensive Sage rods haha! But everyone seems to speak pretty highly of the entire CGR lineup.

They should be at the house when I get home!

I have an old Orvis Battenkill 5/6 reel for the 7' 4/5, but I don't think I have any 5 weight lines right now... Just 4 and 6, so I may need to order a good 5 weight line after playing around with the other lines.

For the 7/8, I ordered that closeout Orvis Access Mid Arbor 7-9 reel and extra spool yesterday. I have an 8 wt Teeny Intermediate line for one spool that I'll try, but I'll need to pick up a floating line for it... All my other 8 weight lines are Rio Outbound floaters/intermediates. Great lines for my fast, stiff Sage Method and Salt rods... But they weigh 2 line weights over what the box says... Think they'd be a little much for the 7/8 CGR!
