A good 5 wt is all you need. Lots of public access. All sight fishing, as I'm sure you already know. Big fish. I didn't see many fly shops, but I only fished the South.

You have to fish there right after the hatchery truck leaves or the cormorants get them.

But those fish in your pics, those aren't hatchery fish. Where'd you go? You don't have to be specific. Some folks are protective of there spots. ;)

Bon Tempe lake outside of fairfax. have never fished by fly in Marin county. I usually just bass fish with a cheater stick, but I figured I might as well try it. And I killed it out there. Not a whole lot of sport in it, but it was still a lot of fun.

Yea I know what you mean. I saw guys filling stringers with trout left and right. I catch and release when I fly fish. Usually only keep fish I catch in the ocean.

Yea that's what I have. My buddy was there last winter and was catching huge trout the whole time he was there, but he was using a standard pole. He said it was the best fishing of his life.

Saw that, but those didn't look like hatchery fish. I was under the impression that hatchery fish had the adipose fin clipped. That's why I asked.

Your the third person that told me that. And I looked it up. They usually do clip the adipose fin. Not sure what I was catching. I know that when they damned lagunitas creek there were a lot of land locked steel head in there. So possibly I was catching the natives that were feeding on the hatchery fish? Not sure, but I agree the fish I was catching looked way too healthy to be hatchery fish.

    Mostly tie my own
Except for traditional dry flies. I'd rather buy them for 65 cents lol

The ones on the left and right have fairly roughed up fins but that middle one looks like it might be wild

Do they clip adipose fins on stream/lake rainbows in ca? In WA they clip the hatchery steelhead

I try to tie as many as I possibly can. I struggle with smaller patterns though. Size 18 anything, no way.

Lately, I've been tying about 90% of the flies I fish with. I've narrowed down my usage to a select few patterns that work really well.

My old lady got me a subscription to post fly box for Christmas last year, so those are the only new ones in my box I haven't tied.

Those are my latest ties. The rusty brown bugger has been pretty effective this fall so far.

I don't think there is a more rewarding fishing experience than matching the hatch with a fly you've tied and landing a fish with it! For me that's as good as it gets.

The stimulator and a solid BWO imitation are the only dries I really use as far as dries go.
