That redfish setup will handle your bassin needs. Thats a great idea to trade the
    Redington in on a reel.
I'd focus on the 5 at first like u said but that 3 will make for some awesome panfishing late in the summer when all they'll eat is little bugs. And u can hit the little trout streams in Georgia n north Carolina with it

And that 5 can handle any bass you're likely to find but it won't throw big bass bugs nearly as well as a heavier rod :)

Both are great companies that have good and gooder products. Depends on which ones he's eyeing.

So I stopped into a local outfitter in Frederick, MD and was not impressed...should've just went down to the Orvis store.

    :annoyed:

This...5 or 6 wt serves all my bassin' needs. I think that 8wt might be too much for freshwater bass....perfect for salt & redfish.

I'm all about the local businesses over large chains...but they had some other store owner there from PA and he was more important to BS with. I was asking questions and in mid-inquiry he needed to answer the phone (which the other guy ended up getting) and he never made his way back to me.

Oh well...I was there with cash in pocket too.

All in all, probably just bad timing. Sucks though because I chose to go there for more variety over the Orvis store which was completely in the other direction. I didn't even get to touch a reel...

:( sorry to hear that. I like to support to little guys too but if they don't want it.....
Will say that every time I have been to Orvis in VT the service has been great.

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and may try them again. Express how you felt you were be treaded (or not treated in this instance). If they make it right....great. if not, simply move on.

I definitely wouldn't rule them out in the future (I'm not local to this area though)...I'm sure it was just bad timing.

The same shit everyone else has.
I use my 7'6" 3w WAYYYY more than any other rod I have.

My best advice for reels is its almost pointless to drop a ton of cash on a reel for a small/light rod. You typically dont need any drag system. The reel does nothing more than hold the line. I fish an old LLBean Streamlight 4/5 on all my lighter rods. I have 3 spools for it. 3w, 4w, and 5w. All weight forward.

Dont hesitate to explore over-lining a lighter rod either. I fish 4w line on my 3w rod a lot. Helps the rod load better when youre fishing in tight quarters.

Simm's. I returned 3 pairs of leaky Orvis Silversonics.

This is sound advice...3wts are delicte and it doesn't take much of a "D'OH!" moment to break a tip, etc.

Yep, I always take 2 or 3. I had a tonneau cover on my old F-150 and broke the same rod twice within a month period. It stinks having to end a day fishing as soon as you get there because you broke the only rod you had.

11.5' 8wt switch Rod, Lamson reel. The largest King in this pic is around 29-30 lbs.

That's the plan. I vacuum packed them, might wait until spring to do them.
