I may try experimenting with something similar if I can find gold/iridescent foam. The peacock herl will give a nice darker contrast to the underbelly.

I broke an old school Orvis Silver Label 8wt that they couldn't repair so they offered me a really good deal on an H2 (salt water) that I couldn't refuse. The H2 is freakin' sweeeeeet!!! I love that rod for stripers, redfish and blues in the Chesapeake and bones in the Caribbean.

They cost so damn much though...and I also hear they're a bit fragile, although I haven't had any issues with mine. Yet.

I know, $800 is a lot for a rod but from what I've heard it is worth it.

Not a lot of brookies around here, almost forgot about them it has been so long. The browns have taken over a lot of the streams. Brookies will take some gaudy flies when they are wild and don't have a lot of pressure, and are one of the most beautiful fish to me. In Western NC they call them specs and they are a different variant from the other brook trout to the North.
Yes it is, he is my youngest at 2, his first trip to SD for phez. The Toller in my avatar sitting in an empty 12 lb. keg of Red Dot gunpowder is now 14.

Fortunately most of the mountain streams in western PA are still filled with em. Though, Ive been focusing more of my time on finding local streams with wild browns.

We've still got a decent amount of native brookies in western Va. I'm amazed at their resilience given the fishing pressure, shitty water levels and acidification. They can be tough little bastards and I love how they'll try to eat almost anything!

I bought a Cabelas LSI?? 8wt switch rod and a Lamson for salmon. That combo did extremely well for me this past year. The whole set up was ~$250.

Every once in a while, you'll find some decent Cabelas gear. If your into 'glass rods, the CGR is worth a look. I have one and enjoy fishing it. Im real close to ordering another one - the 5'9" 3w - since theyre on sale again and maybe a matching CGR reel just because

Just got my new tfo in today. I had ordered it about a month ago. Its a 7wt and I'm putting a ross rapid on it. Already in love with the combo. It should slay the steelhead and salmon that run along with the bass and carp in the local ponds and water. I ordered it from a local store whom I've become pretty good friends with. He hooks it up...like actually. He sells me everything he gets at cost. If you're in the bay area check him out at Creative Sports in pleasant hill. Cant wait to get out on the water, hopefully the rain stops so the rivers can lighten up. Tight lines

Some one talk me into or out of buying either a 5'9" 3w or 6'2" 2w CGR since they are on sale....

I have a 6'6" 3/4w Eagle Claw Featherlite that I enjoy fishing and wouldnt mind having a shorter rod that breaks down for hiking to strap to my Simms full day pack (it has a rod tube holder on the side). The Featherlite is a 2 piece rod. Both CGR's are 3 piece, which makes them more pack-able.

90% of my fishing is done on small mountain streams no more than a few yards wide so either rod would fit the bill well. Im leaning towards the 5'9" 3w since its a bit shorter and the 6'2" and 6'6" are almost the same length.

Lets see some full pics. Colored up gemmies are my favorite.

If you already have a 6'+ rod, I'd go for the 5'9" first.
