The same shit everyone else has.
I have an older LLBean Streamlight I used for about 90% of my trout fishing. I have 3 spools for it - WF3W, WF4W, and WF5W - so it works with all my rods save for the 6w. Im waiting for the CGR reels to go on sale and plan on scooping one up since thet are just a little smaller just to have.

I finally broke the 12" mark on a wild brown today with this dude -

Measured in a hair over 13". Pretty awesome fish outta this little trickle that filled with 6" wild browns -

Its my biggest wild trout to date too.

This is pretty random, but does anyone know if you can find springs for a 1960s Martin 8A automatic fly reel? I cannot find anything on it. I know the reels themselves aren't worth much but the sentimental value is there.

Idk the answer, but if you google fiberglass flyrodders forum and create an account and start a forum with the question somebody will know. It's like the TW of the fly fishing world.

I had the same issues with a Reddington. I called them up. They said that the company had changed ownership and that they didn't have anything from the older reels. Bummed. It was my first reel. Hope you find what you're looking for.

IF you have the old springs then it is easy enough to match the springs up in all the spring manufactures out there today. Measure the size and catches on them, tension strength would be the hard part though.

Good luck my first fly rod had a Pflueger auto. Think it also had rotted fly gut for a tippet and level leader and line. Gave a couple of rat hides and a big old boar coon hide for it, about the same time as your Martin was made or shortly after. Caught a lot of tree trout at first but eventually became proficient with it. Yeah if I still had it would be hunting for springs too, hope you can get her running again with a smooth strip of line. They are not in favor anymore but they certainly do work well.

Quit a fish on a light rod. Be careful you do not stress the fish in the long fight.

Practice. Do not complete a fly if each step is not correct. If one step is wrong it gets worse and worse from there. My tying really improved when I started tying a dozen of each pattern and size. People have told me you do not know how to tye a pattern until you tie 100 of them. Yes, practice makes perfect. Fish do not care if they are pretty.

they repair them for modest price. Few manufacturers do that. Patagonia also makes a good wader - the feet fit better, there are left and right feet.

I have what is left of the old spring. It has broken in six different pieces but part of the spring is still intact. It is no longer attached, of course, so it slips and only winds a short distance but it's still functional. The reel is my dad's. He had it on an old Pflueger rod I found so I decided to take it apart and clean it up. I got all of the rust and dirt out and put vaseline on the three gears and put the spring back in. It works much better now, but I'd like to properly restore it.
