No offence to the great product you sell and the business you run, which is well loved on this forum, but your statement is wrong. I have no issue at all with Chinese production, but the fact is Toyota makes its aluminum wheels for the North American market in Canada. The Vancouver, B.C. area to be specific. They pump out 2 million wheels plus annually at the CAPTIN (Canadian Auto Parts Toyota Inc.) plant in Tilbury, running 24/7, 3 shifts, supplying the American, Canadian, and Mexican Toyota assembly plants with aluminum wheels (about 9000 wheels a day). Some even end up back in Japan. I have worked often at this plant as an electrical contractor and can assure you the quality control in the plant is absolutely exceptional. The tiniest flaw in the casting or machining of the OEM wheels sends them back into melt. Minute specs of dust in the paint or clear coat will cause the wheels to be rejected for repaint or re-melt. The plant employs about 300 to 400 unionized workers earning good middle-class incomes, working for a corporation that is loyal to its workforce (see link). Health, safety, all that.

While working as a contractor at the plant, my own work, and even my attitude and demeanour is constantly scrutinized, and subject to review by Toyota QA managers. Years back, on one project, Toyota banned my foreman from the site as they felt his attitude was not in keeping with Toyota’s commitment to a thorough and organized approach to work. See ya boss! (They were right.....he was a douche)

So......again.....I agree China can produce exceptional products including FN wheels, and maybe the OEM TRD SEMA Toyota wheels are, for some strange reason, also produced in China, as opposed to the Canadian plant, but the vast majority of OEM aluminum wheels for Toyotas sold in all of North America, are produced in Canada, not China, Thailand etc.

Below, a really great read if you want to “nerd out” about Toyota’s corporate philosophies regarding employee retention and quality assurance etc at its Canadian wheel plant. The article carries on past the many ads in the article:

    http://www.surreynowleader.com/business/a-wheel-long-time/

This article describes an initiative that Toyota took on in partnership with the local university to advance the wheel making process. Interesting that it states that die design has been shifted from Japan to B.C.:

    https://news.ubc.ca/2011/08/29/ubc-...deral-funds-to-re-invent-wheel-manufacturing/

Hope this post is interesting to all. It is by no means an opinion piece about Chinese production. Personally, I have no issue with Chinese made products. I think trade between nations is what makes the world a better and safer place to live, and has always been a part of human history.

Nice I have the same exact set up. I got the C rated ko2s. Did not see change in my mpg. Have had them on for about 10k miles now

Also wanted to add that I took a 900 mile round trip and averaged about 20mpg

That’s good to hear, I did the C rated as well. So far I haven’t noticed a difference in how the truck drives like folks talk about.

I just moved down to Chicago and my truck sits outside on the street. Its a safe area but you can never be too careful. Do you guys think the spline lug nuts are enough of a safeguard for my wheels or should I go one step further and add another set of wheel locks to the truck?

A few people reached out to me to let me know that the 4Runner TRD OEM wheels are made in southeast Asia (Thailand?). For whatever reason, those wheels, possibly because they are not fitted to a North American produced vehicle (4Runners are made in Japan) are produced overseas by Toyota. Anyways.......I don’t want to be the source of misinformation about the OEM TRD SEMA wheels. They are not a Canadian product (from what I’ve been told).
