I’ve been looking at some of the replacement accessories for lockable under/behind rear seat storage and I like the idea. It would be better if the combination/key locks could be replaced with remote fob locks that could be programmed to work with the OEM key fob OR even a second fob.

has anyone done this or considered doing it? I’m not electrically inclined but I know some who are. I think the trick here is finding locks that would work and install on the accessories. What do you all think?

Nothing? Nobody knows? Surely with all the wealth of information someone knows this?

Would the effort spent wiring and designing custom electronic locks for the stock boxes be worth it to you? Would you be installing metal lids to cover the storage spaces? What material would the lock be engaging with?
Locking boxes under/behind the rear seats are a good theft deterrent but they are by no means secure storage as is.
The under seat boxes could be popped open with a pixie stick as they are currently designed.
For me personally, the effort wouldn’t be worth the results. Why add keyless locks to a plastic bin? How often are you in and out of them? How much time and effort would it save you vs using a key?
I’d just get existing products, have them all keyed the same and another key to the chain

I’m replacing the plastic bins with steel aftermarket components.

Interesting idea, but if it is controlled by the FOB then it would also be controlled by the door lock switches... if someone accessed the truck, then unlocking the doors, unlocks the storage boxes...

I was thinking it would most likely function off of a separate fob. Too complicated to function with the factory fob and the problems you mentioned as well.

Then an aftermarket keyless entry module would be the ticket. Wouldn't be to difficult. The lock mechanism and size might be the hardest obstacle.

I’ve looked at some different options and perhaps it’s my lack of imagination or inability to see 3 dimensions in my head, but I haven’t really seen anything that would work. The larger compartments (underseat) would likely need two locks per compartment due to their size. Otherwise you could just pry open the other end.
