I bough the Focal IS 690TOY for about $300, includes a pair of front 6x9s, a pair of tweeters, and supposedly everything you need to plug & play into your Tacoma.

As usual, it's not that easy :bananadead:

The brackets worked well but I had to splice & dice to wire the tweeters. Here's what you need to know if you're going this route:

    1. Here's the box. Nice package.

    2. Pull your door panels (see other writeups cause I'm too lazy), apply sound deadening if you want. I used some Dynamat Xtreme I had lying around.

    3. Try to plug & play the Plug & Play kit. Realize you got duped. Get frustrated & yell at the French company that made it :annoyed:

    4. Get out your electrical supplies and do the following:

The kit comes with wire extensions and 2 pairs of harness adapters - you don't need any of these.
For the 6x9s, just cut the factory electrical tape around the wire bundles and you'll have enough slack in the wire to go directly in the side of the new speakers.
For the tweeters, you'll need to tap into the factory wires and make an extension to the new tweeters. If you unplug the tweeter harness it disconnects the 6x9s, so leave it in and cut the wires a couple inches from the tweeters.

    5. Put it all back together & you're done. Turn up that Celine Dion album that's in your CD player and enjoy.

It's still a good package deal: you don't have the added cost of brackets or harnesses, the speakers are nice, and it's a good price. I'll probably add an amp to power them eventually but they sound great as is, much better than stock.

Man that sucks, but the 6x9's look pretty damn good though. How does it sound? Factory headunit? no jbl-amp?

They're nice. Factory non-JBL head unit, no amp (yet). My buddy has the identical stock system in his 2015 so we compared after I installed these. They're louder, more clear sounding, and the midrange bass is significantly better. I'm happy with it overall, especially since it gives me the option to power them.

Thanks for the review and the insight of the tweeter install.
