The fog light switch illuminates sometimes when I engage the flog lights. I was able to reach the back of the switch and push on the plug thinking perhaps it was just a loose connection. At this point I am ready to either replace the bulb inside the switch (and I have no idea of how to do that but I know it has one) or to replace the switch with a new one. My question is this: how do I remove the switch? I tried a small plastic pry tool and also I tried a small screwdriver. Neither go the job done. I suppose I could just destroy the switch and pull it out but I know there must be a smart way to remove the switch. Any idea's other than destroying the switch to get it out? My vehicle is a Tacoma PreRunner, 4.0, Crewcab. It is the first year of the 2nd Generation Tacoma's.

pretty sure the switch itself doesnt illuminate when you push the switch... but rather illuminates when you turn headlights on with the rest of the dash.

The switch lights when the lights are turned on. If your bulb is intermittent, you may need to clean the contacts on the bulb and to do that you need to take it out. Start by prying up the sill plate. Remove the floor left foot rest and unscrew the lower left kick plate fastener. remove the kick plate. Remove lower dash coin holder. Remove 2 (or 3?) lower dash 10mm bolts and remove lower dash. Pull forward on dash housing the switches, disconnecting the plugs. The switch is held in with clips top and bottom. Alternatively, once the lower dash is removed, poke a finger underneath the switch to release the lower clip and push forward. Then the switch will disengage and pull forward enough to get to the lightbulb. Clean the contacts and replace. Not as hard as it sounds. Takes about 10 minutes. Search the forum for pics.

Mine use to do that. Actually did it until about two years ago. Ever since then it stays illuminated whether the fog lights are on or not. I don't know what changed.

My above comment was misleading (actually, it was just plain wrong). My fog light switch does illuminate when the headlights are turned on. What I was trying to say is that there is no indication on the dash whether the fogs are on or not. Every other 4X4 I've had let me know by some sort of idiot light that the fogs were on. Not a big deal, but there probably should be an indicator similar to the idiot light that tells you your headlights are on.
