These blanks just popped right out and the new switches just popped right back in.

Great Trick from Nomad 827. The other easy way without having to remove any dash components if you are switching out the OEM switch to the FJ Cruiser one with the indicator light goes like this:

Using a plastic interior trim sharp tool, you can gently pry the cover off the switch itself starting at the top.
Now you will see a small rectangular hole at the top and bottom of the switch frame. Using a small flat screwdriver, gently insert the blade into the upper opening at an upward angle and gently pry down, while using a pair of needle nose on the side of the switch to gently pull out and release the top.
Same thing for the bottom. Now the switch is hanging by the wires and you can release the connector to the switch and patch in the new switch.

I am wanting to use the OEM FJ Cruiser switch (Like for a 2012/13), which has 6 pins. There was a great write up by a member on doing this, and now I can't find it. :( Basically he got the pins out of the Tacoma connector, bought the FJ Cruiser 6 pin connector, and put the Tacoma pins into that one, then tied the last two pins, which he also bought from Toyota into the fog light relay, (which goes to ground when the switch is pressed) and patched the hot wire for the indicator light into the hot wire going to the fog symbol wire. Note: This wire is only hot when you have the park/headlights on.

For me, I had already done the anytime fog lights mod, so this last piece of the wiring puzzle did not accomplish what I wanted, which was to have the indicator light work anytime the fog lights were on. To do this, I installed an add a fuse at the driver rear window fuse, and fed that wire to the switch opening and attached the OEM "repair" pin, which gave me power anytime the ign. is on. So, regardless of whether the parking/headlights are on, the switch lights up anytime the switch is depressed.

If anyone wants the pin #'s and function for the FJ switch, just let me know and I can post a pdf of it, and give props to the member who wrote it up. It also listed all the Toyota part numbers for the FJ OEM parts.

    Paperclip method works pretty well.

A thought I just had, a small strip of strong duct tape (Gorilla, etc.), fold it like this __!__, so there is a small tab you can pull on. Stick it to the switch blank and see if it pulls out.
