So the other day i was driving at night, coming to work. i was curious to see the difference between fogs on and fogs off with my high beams. they were on at the time. i looked over to try to find my fog light switch and it was NOT lit up.... when i did find it i pushed the button and the light came on. the fog lights still work, but the switch seems to be intermittent whether it comes on with the rest of the interior lights or not. like there is no explanation for why it is doing it, sometimes if i have the button pushed in and the interior lights off, then i turn the interior lights on it will not light up with them, but will light up when pushed. the fog lights are working as they should be, and there is no problem with the switch's ability to turn them on or off. i have the anytime fog light mod done, its the one where your parking lights have to be on in order for your fog lights to be able to come on. anyone else experience this? can i just buy a new switch you think? any advice would be nice, im kind of stumped as to what the problem is...

Have you, or anybody changed the color of the fog light button? I know when I had Jerez do mine about 2 weeks after i got it back and installed the light stopped coming on. I just had to take it out and reconnect them and it worked.

Mine didnt turn on unless the fogs were on and I loved it that way. Jerez told me mine should always be on with the dash lights cuz I asked why it was always on... I miss it only lighting up when the fogs were on...

    Factory switch?

The fogs should not come on with the high beam unless you did the "anytime" mod.
The dash light is a bulb... not an LED.
It's a similar bulb to the socket type on the back of the AC panel.. and the wires are prone to compressing and making poor contact.

Pop the switch out, unscrew the lamp (1/4 turn only), then gently lift the wires where they loop through the connector with the smallest jeweler's screwdriver you can find.

Also inspect the filament, but it's probably not burned out.

i havent touched the switch haha, i just recetly added the DTRL relay and jumper to my truck, and took the lower panel out, i will check in the AM if it is just loose, hopefully thats it!

that sounds like it would be way too easy. what are the chances that that is the only button doing this though?

yea, i'd rather have mine on with the parking lights like everything else, like its supposed to.... i think

mine comes on with the parking lights/rest of the interior lights, or is supposed to.

yea its a factory switch. the only thing i can think of is that i mustve not plugged in it tight when i took that whole lower dash out the other day to add the DTRL jumper and flasher... i will try this, but i dont think i have a small screw driver like that. i could pick one up i suppose, but i think it might be easier to just grab a new switch?

yes! i compare it to that, and that is always on when its supposed to be. i also noticied that when i turn the fogs on and off with the switch, the light seems to flicker just after you push it, and you have to be watching to notice it.. you think the switch itself is just going bad? or possibly that i fucked it up when i did the DTRL? i didnt take it out of the plastic its mounted to, but anything is possible i guess.

$40 for a new switch, $3 for a new light bulb, both you have to order online... or $1 for a plastic box with 6 small screwdrivers in it from the dollar store?

Ya, Tacoma uses a 4 wire switch.
2 wires control the fogs, 2 control the light.
They are independent circuits so it's possible for one to be finicky without impacting the other.
Also, the light is not impacted by switch operation directly so I would not expect the fogs themselves to flicker.

But since moving the switch "disturbs" the back half of the switch, it could cause the switch light to flicker.

How big of a pita is it to get the switches out of the dash, both my fog and diff lock switches no longer light up with the headlights. Just don't want to break a switch if there is a "trick" to getting them out.

    Thanks

Take the coin holder out, and the drop down cubby for the fuse. Then give a tug where the switches are and it will pop down, them you will see the top of the switches push the claps down and pull out. Now the fog is a little harder to get

If you have skinny arms, you can reach the top row by reaching in above the brake pedal over the underdash structures.
That's how I routed my Ultragauge cable from the A-pillar down to the OBD connector.

so I got the switch out, found that tiny bulb, and played with it for a bit. fuckin thing wouldn't come on at all. so I took the bulb out of the rr diff lock switch and put it in and it worked. put it back in the diff lock switch and it doesn't work anymore. so now I have two switches that don't light up. I tried pulling that small wire up to make better contact, spit on it to create more conduction, and nothing. where the fuck can I buy those bulbs? is it easier to just buy new switches?

I'm not 100% sure it will fit, but I believe the "Neo" size A (T3) will fit.
Grab a metric ruler and verify...

    http://autolumination.com/74.htm

Scroll about halfway down, search for "39397-SA5-003"
You want the bulb style... not LED.
