I've been all over Taco world and found out lots of stuff about installing fog lights on Tacoma's that have wiring in place but I have not found the part numbers for the basic wiring harness. I can find the switch and the lights and fancy stuff like moding the lights to stay on all the time. Probably being stupid, not unusual but help would be appreciated.

So help me help you here. Does your truck have OEM/Stock fog lights?

I have nothing. I found the OEM switch and I can find lights but you need a wiring harness and Toyota parts directories are not good here.

    Okay that helps.

My question now is are you dead set on the OEM wiring harness? You could get a ton of aftermarket options to perform the same task for a fraction of the price. Also, have you considered instead just installing an upgraded LED unit where the OEM for lights would go? The OEM ones are known to be poor performers, and for the same amount of money to source the parts to go OEM you could get a good upgrade.

Disclaimer: Honest questions, but I do sell the components.

    All of this is true.

I wouldn’t spend the money to go OEM.
After market is better and and will be cheaper.

What ever you do choose to go with, Please, Please, I beg of you.
Do not wire them to come on with the DTRL or High Beams.

I'm not set on the factory wiring harness and can and have built them from components. In this case winter is coming on, the garage is unheated and I thought I'd do plug and play. For lights LED's would be nice but not necessary; one thing that is interesting is that the 2015 Taco has a mounting system that apparently was standard in the 3 generation systems.

Does Toyota even sell an over the counter stand alone fog light kit? I’m guessing no. The factory fog light wires are intertwined into the truck harness.

I know they did for first gens I would assume they offered it for the 2nd and 3rds as well.

It was an upgrade kit installed at the dealer on new trucks for what was referred to as a "Port SR5" or a base truck that got some specific upgrades such as fogs, variable wipers, trim etc.

    Edit:

It was a pretty simple and basic kit, there were two actually, one for trucks that were partially pre-wired and one for completely unwired trucks.

The unwired trucks it wad basically just the same as an aftermarket kit.

Even if my truck wad partially pre-wired if I didn't already have fogs I would do the aftermarket option for price and simplicity.

    That’s what I thought too?
Some people have reported they could simply add the switch, lights, relay, and fuse.
Others say it didn’t work for them, seems to be later model trucks were less likely to be “prewired”

Prewired / integrated , I’m using the term interchangeably here.

Apparently my 2015 base truck did not come with the wiring harness for the fogs so I'll need to make one. I have the OEM switch and for a bunch of bucks having to get the simple socket and the pigtails that plug into it to make it work. I'll post the numbers when I get them, took a bit of work at the dealer to find the p/n.

The OEM fog light circuit only has one blue wire going into the cab. Easy to duplicate.
The rest of the the harness is inside the engine bay.
    upload_2020-11-9_20-56-36.jpg
The H-LP (Headlamp) RH-LO (Righthand Low) is what provides power to the relay so that the fogs can turn ON after Low Beam is selected. Once High Beam is selected the fog turn OFF even when FOG switch is ON.
Fused Ignition Source would allow use of the fogs anytime vehicle is on ACC or ON.
Small gauge wire from same fused (HOT) source allows FOGs ON anytime, even when vehicle is OFF.

Thanks, I was just sitting down with a yellow pad to draw this out. Been my experience in dealing with fog and snow and country roads, that it is handy to be able to turn fogs on with high beams, and when the fog/ snow is really thick it would be nice to run them without the headlamps, so I am thinking your right hand diagram.

If you follow the wire of the headlights to the fender you'll find EA & EB grounds (either side). It's a bolt to the fender which joins a few ground wires.
Since you don't have the side box that would've housed a few relays, including the fog one, any sealed relay set up is fine.

Same for the Battery fused power source, a few pins in the main fuse box are used. Just place a female flag terminal then a fuse holder.

This connector in the engine fuse box has IGN power. The Lime Green wire.

Exit the wires from the Box where the harness also come out (engine side)

Thanks, keeping all of this neat is a good thing. How do people like to run the light in the fog light switch? On when the truck is on say with a add a circuit tap to the radio fuse? Or is there a set up so that it is on when the low beams are on? Tapping the line coming in from the engine compartment should do that.

That would be inverted to what I have shown here. The DIY sample is a very close duplicate of the OEM. Tapping the lime green wire gets you FOGs anytime the ignition is available (ACC/ON)

Sorry, no what I was looking at were the green and green white wires that go into the switch. These appear to get power from instrument panel and I figured that these were designed to light the switch up. In other vehicles I've had the fog light switch is lighted when the ignition is on, I guess to help you find it. Is this what Tacoma had in mind? No reason not to bother with them at all. Looking at the simple wiring diagrams in the Taco manual I have these wires do not appear to be addressed, buried in the instrument cluster wiring.

You might have other connectors (with illumination) that are also without switches. Taped to the harness. Maybe.

Thanks for this one. Explains what is happening in the instrument panel. I'll poke around and see if there are some unused leads. Otherwise I suspect that I won't bother with lighting.
