I recently purchased a 2012 Tacoma 4x4 double cab base model and I'm trying to learn more about working on it myself using these forums, for the most part I haven't really had any major issues. Recently the passenger side foglight went out, so I purchased new bulbs and installed them without any issue but the passenger side foglight still wasn't working. My next thought was that there might a wiring issue, so without really thinking too much about it I purchased a cheap foglight kit from Amazon that included a switch, as I thought would be nice to be able to control when the foglights were on or off. However when I started looking over the foglight cables I realized that they were wired to turn on with the headlights and not separately wired. I haven't really been able to find any information on how these cables are normally wired online, in fact, most of the info I have found suggests the foglights are usually wired independently from the headlights. If anyone has any info on how these might be wired, how I can fix my foglight, or any related threads I'd really appreciate it. Also happy to upload additional info/photos if that may help.

    Thanks!

Have you tested for power with a test light, and usually the plug goes bad …..keep it simple when testing

Hood Struts, My version Fogs always ON, Map & Overhead Light Mod,
The shared circuit of the headlights (low beam) is sent to a very small buss bar inside the engine bay fuse/relay box.
This shared connection provides power to the fog lamp relay coil side (+) the negative side of the relay coil is controlled by the cabin fog lamp switch. It completes the circuit when pressed.
When the High beams are selected, the fog relay coil looses fused power, shutting off the Fogs.

    P.S.
    VERY Easy to duplicate "externally".

    Definitely keep it simple!

And check that the new buib is good first of all.

Going down the path of a new fog light kit sounds absolutely NUTS, @decaye515, to be honest. Probably 20X as much work as figuring out what you've got, and then a solution that isn't as good.
