I don't have DTRL's so I have them on. Safety first. I could care less about looks.

Man. Some fog lights are as miserable for oncoming traffic as are your brights. I turn them off when there's no inclement weather.

Also, had friends get ticketed for running with them on in clear weather. Not sure if it's legal here because I haven't been here long, but lots of people do it.

Wow! I just got a negative hit on my reputation for the above.

Someone needs to turn on the lights so they can find a sense of humor.

Properly aimed factory fog lights (read: halogen) shouldn't be blinding anyone. I don't know why someone would ding someone for that.

They don't really help, they only make you think they do. Your high beams will help you see more than your low beams, and the factory headlights on these trucks are pretty good--far better than most I've driven. You can also get far better bulbs for the truck, like the Osram 70/65W Rallye bulbs. They are fantastic.

Consider this: the fog lights are meant to illuminate about 30-40ft in front of the truck to help you go 25-30MPH in pea soup. 60MPH is 88 feet per second. If you don't see something until it's in range of your fog lights, you have less than half a second to react and evade. It's simply not going to happen. All fog lights do at that speed is change your focus, from down the road (where it should be) to directly in front of your truck--whether you realize it or not.

You'd be better off with even a set of fairly inexpensive driving lights tied to your high beams than the factory fog lights.

I drive with mine on for safety and no you don't blind oncoming traffic, unless your truck has that Cali lean then you blind everyone no matter what.

I leave mine on at night. Just did the mod so I can turn them on anytime and gona love it! I like to do some "road herping".... (Driving back roads and finding/catching snakes) the fog light range is perfect for spotting them on the sides of the roads! And it will be nice the have the fogs fill in the darkish spot when my highs are on! I also like the look and feel like I can be seen better by other vehicles! Plus I get a little wider light range with them on which helps spot deer which are all over my roads home!

Dont most Subaru dtrl's have the fogs on? Having fog lights be illegal during the day/clear weather seems really dumb, let alone unsafe. I doubt you could blind someone during the day with your highs on. I don't have the fogs anytime mod, but I still run my reg lights on during the day a lot of the time.

Why have them on all the time? There really is no need. I say go out at night on the highway and drive with just your fogs on and see how far that gets ya! It just makes it look like you see more when really you don't. You just see the 8 feet infront of your truck better and by the time you see anything you won't be able to swerve and hit any zombies, Bro's or Joseph Kony...

edit: the truck still looks Bad Ass with the Fog light on anytime mod!!

You can run fog lights whenever you want (local laws notwithstanding), however traditionally, as is the case with the fog lights in Tacomas and most every other vehicle, the optics are such that it provides a very diffuse beam pattern that illuminates peripheral and short distance areas.

If visibility is your concern, you should not run them unless fog visibility is a problem. They are problematic running in clear weather not because they blind other drivers, but because your eye is drawn to the "brightest" area of illumination, which is directly in front of the vehicle. Under normal conditions, you should be scanning well ahead of your vehicle, not 30 feet in front of it -- if you are, you have other problems than lights. :)

HIDs in fog lights are just outright pointless. Aside from the reflective housing absolutely not matching the light source, the color temperature is completely wrong for contrasting precipitation. In fact, you're just making it worse. The same is true for "rebased" HID bulbs in headlamps, but that's a different thread. I know I'll get flamed into oblivion, but the science behind it doesn't lie.

Car manufacturers spend millions of dollars developing optics tuned for a specific light source, there's not much you can do to improve it without sacrificing either longevity, brightness, or fidelity.

Turn them on if you want, but effective driving visibility isn't really improved by them under most conditions and provides a slight risk of training your eyes where not to look.

I guess as DRLs it isn't a bad option if you didn't have that from the factory.

I live in the sticks and feel that having my fogs on MIGHT give me a half-second to react to a deer running out in front of me.

I can also see where having more (read 'fog') lights on during the day can make a vehicle more visible to others.

    :deadhorse:

*I have no statistical data to support how I feel. I'm just trying to keep deer from destroying the front of my new truck.

I use mine as DRLs, like you stated. And while you're correct about the focal point of the lights and where you look, I prefer to have the option to override that and use whichever works best in a given situation. Blowing snow? They tend to reflect more than the high beams so I turn them off. Some 1-lane "road" in the back country, washed out, lined with dear, and no other traffic? I'll take as much light as I can get. To me it's no different than adding a light bar and some PIAA's (or whatever) other than this was free. :D

Mine are always on with my headlights, They are all 4 intense white hella beams. I love the added spread and coverage the fogs provide.

    They arent blinding or obnoxious.

Thought I'd give this one a nice little bump.

I was driving home tonight and I noticed my fog lights were off. Just as I passed a vehicle that was driving slowly in the right lane I turned my fog lights on. He/she proceeded to get in my lane and blind me with their high beams. This is the first time I've ever had this happen to me. :notsure: Why..
