Sloppy offroad mud bogs…best line to settle into other people’s ruts, or make your own?

I try to avoid mud. Only place I’ve ever been stuck up to my frame is mud. Always shitty trying to get unstuck. But if I have to choose I’d probably chose ruts cause that mud is somewhat packed down and you know the guy before you probably made it through.

Depends on the situation. I don't like the idea of ever-widening paths with everyone picking their own line across a 100' width.

But taking someone else's failed line can also not always work.

I'd rather be in the rut than fall into it.

It sucks when full sized trucks are on trails, we have limiters out here to stop them from getting too big.

Deep mud is one thing I too try to avoid. It increases vehicle maintenance & upkeep many times over (mud sucks the grease out past the seals of everything, and occasionally can damage the seals themselves too).

But if I have no choice, then what @rnish said.
