I bought my Char Griller pellet pooper at Lowes for around $400, or half the cost of a Traeger, and it's been working great for years. They don't carry that one any more, but have Pit Boss brand now. If you have Lowes in your area look at the Lowes website and read the reviews. They seem to be very good smokers, highly rated, at about 1/2 the cost of a comparable Traeger. Some reviewers are previous Traeger owners.

Love my Traeger, actually maybe next year I'm going to upgrade to their newer one so I get WiFi and all that. I was working on a replacement board for my current one using a raspberry pi but that project got turned into building a propane smoker out of a commercial fridge.

That one should hopefully be done in the next few weeks, just ordered a socket for the chip I'm using to get values from the meat and unit probes.

I looked at the RecTec also and they are built real well I'm just not a fan of their looks and sadly enough looks matter lol.

Look what followed me home from work today. Big Horn pellet pooper. It was returned as defective. I tested it in my shop ran perfectly. Basically someone used for a cook and brought it back. Manager let me have it for 50% off. I walked out with it, 20lbs of Lumberjack hickory pellets and two watermelons
for $166.54 after my 15% employee discount.

You going to be in the Athens area I assume? Best thing is that Foodland (local chain) has butts on sale for 99cents a pound

Making a quick run to Blount County (Cleveland) to help mom do some thing with her farm - her husband passed recently...) Since my dad passed, I dont really have a reason to go all the way up to Athens any more :( And I'd prefer to stay as far away from his widow as possible. I dont want to go to jail...

Tenderloin, not quite as strong a flavor as it has when it's right off the smoker but still good.

Dats some cheap brisket! Or really really small... Ones I see at Costco are $50 and up. EACH.

Yup HEB Texas has packers for $1.96 a lb so a full packer is about $24-$30
