I've never needed a chimney of charcoal that fast.

If I need to cook that quick then I simply skip the grill and do it in a cast iron skillet on the stove.

Yup....smoked salt takes on a nice flavor.

I use a smoking tube and run it twice (10-12 hours)....stirring the salt in between reloads of the tube.

I've smoked pepper before, but never salt. I need to do this! No reason to keep buying smoked salt when I can do it myself.

By the way, cherry smoked pepper is amazing. Give it a whirl next time you're smoking spices.

    Yup.

Here's the one I've been using.

I may get one of their tray-maze versions, too.

I always figured there was a better way to make smoked salt. My guess is the salt isn’t absorbing anything anyway - it’s a rock. So you’re basically coating the outside of it with particulate until it tastes smoky. Seems like you could grab a little charcoal left over from your smokewood, blend it into a fine powder in a spice grinder and then mix it into the salt in a ratio of 100 to 1 salt to charcoal (or to taste) and get the same effect in zero time.

But much like the guy starting his chimney on the AC unit, I do not recommend you try the above. Not responsible for ruined salt, lost children or stolen personal items.

Finally can add to this thread. Didn't realize how good the Louisiana LG series were that Costco carried. Also had not idea that Costco was $400 less than anywhere else! They no longer carry the LG700. I went to buy it on Friday, and they were all gone. I called around and was lucky to find the last one a few miles out from me. Ran over there to pick it up. While I was there I picked up some Traeger pellets and some ribs! My very 1st thing I wanted to try was the 3-2-1 style ribs. Have to say I am pretty proud and excited to try again!

Never heard of smoking salt. Is it just regular table salt?

Nice! If you can find Lumberjack pellets locally, try the competition blend.
