i purchased one brisket from Walmart and that was a mistake. I don’t even bother anymore unless it is prime.

I didn’t buy it. I was tempted but didn’t want to spend $50 on Walmart meat.

That’s the price it is usually around here too. $$$

Which is weird because it’s considered a poor cut of meat.

Yeah, that is the price they always are here at the Kroger too, and usually all they have out. A few weeks ago my buddy's wife requested brisket, so I decided to ask the butcher at Kroger if they had any whole packers. He came back out, looked at his price book, and gave me a 12 lb packer at 2.99/lb (i think, somewhere right around there). Worth asking the butcher, they may just not put them out often or at all.

I paid $3.99 a lb from Costco today. Picked up 2 Prime whole briskets. Will be heading to Kroger in a little while to pick up some pork butt they have it on sale for $0.99 a lb.

Weird, around Atlanta they are opening new ones or renovating old ones. We just got a brand new Super Kroger near me. It has a sushi bar, hot food bar, and craft beer and wine bar in it

Trimmed Flats around here are the same, because grandma will pay it when buying Sunday dinner. But untrimmed/ungraded packers are 3.99 at the ghetto grocery store, and Sam’s Club usually has choice packers for $3.59-$3.99/lb. It pays to shop around.

Kroger is doing well, they are aggressive in the marketplace but selective. They also own Harris Teeter. While Kroger is pulling out of the Raleigh NC area they are replacing them with Harris Teeter stores. So to the bottom line nothing is changing. Or so they hope.

and Harris Teeter is a higher cost store, and thats the ultimate goal, product not really any better than anywhere else, we'll just charge you 2.5 times more for it, especially if it can be considered a "specialty" item.

One opened 5 miles from the house, closer than any other grocery store, we drive right on past most times. and DON'T go there on the way home from work, or on Saturday/Sunday afternoons, 2 cashiers and the 4 maybe working self check out. you'll be in line longer than it took to find your Chezits

The article I read said they were pulling out because the market was too saturated in this area.. But Harris teeters going in doesn't make sense except that around here Kroger has lower prices than Harris Teeter so more profit.

I had 10 grocery stores within 1-2 miles or so of my house at one point. The full size Walmart closed as did the Fresh and Easy. Now we "only" have Raleys, Bel Air, Safeway, Smart and Final, Whole Foods, WinCo, Target and 1 other I cant think of. It's crazy and I don't know how they stay in business.

Yeah, hell i have 3 krogers within 3 miles or so of my house, they all have different names. I go to the new one with the bar, "Krobar". I avoid "ghetto kroger" unless absolutely necessary, and parking at "bumblefuck kroger" is a nightmare so try to avoid it. "Murder Kroger" is about 4 miles, it closed about 8 months ago, complete demo and is supposed to be re-opening soon with live/work/play above it. And those aren't just my names, literally the whole city of Atlanta refers to these that way. Also have "disco kroger" in buckhead and "Kro-gay" in Ansley park, both withing another few miles

We have Ghetto Walmart and Weed Wal Mart near us, then we have one that it a little nicer a couple miles away and then a NICE Wal Mart about 10 mins further. We tend to make the drive to the further one. Don't need a contact buzz at Weed Wal Mart.

@bvbull200 is the MBA marketing major. He likely has more insight than what I did 40+ years ago LOL.

The 2 most common marketing examples given back then were the Ford Mustang. And grocery stores.

A lot has changed since then. My sister in Raleigh that shops for her family of 6 and my 80 year old mother talks often to me of the Harris Teeter and Kroger dilemma.

Some people shop at Target instead of Walmart. To avoid the "People of Walmart".

Some do the same at Harris Teeter instead of Kroger for the same reason. But if they are doing the old Lowes - Home Depot model of not having people staffing checkouts and doing self service I think they will do an Epic fail. At least IMO. Hell I was happy with Food Lion in NC :anonymous:

I suggested the farmers market, there are enough of them in the area for her. She resisted that. I purchase much of my produce at the local farmers market. Except meat. Not a fan of grass fed anything, sorry. Feed them corn as it was meant to be. Fatten them up proper to give the beast of burden marbling and then process them.

Be interesting to see how things play out in the grocery store battles.

Sad Panda will be well rewared for the effort. Hey at least it isn't white rain :p Well done good sir! I'm sure it turned out well with you at the helm. Adapt. Overcome.
