No I have the Thermoworks Industrial IR Gun instead

Got it at half off, when it goes on sale at half off it is $34.50 and I know that I can trust it.

Hmm -9.3° so the 13° this morning shouldn't have felt so cold LOL. I do use it for checking the temperature of the Grillgrates before doing a sear. Also windows for air leaks. And when towing the buggy on the trailer and make stops for gas hit the wheels on the trailer to check bearings for overheating.

Thermoworks is having 18% off right now so it would be $56.58 but it does go on sale occasionally for half off like when I got mine. At least they used to with COVID-19 wouldn't count on it anytime soon.

When using an IR Gun for taking forehead temperatures they need to be FDA cleared. Forehead temperature is lower than internal body temperature and the gun needs to be calibrated for the adjustment. Plus you don't want to have the laser anywhere near the eyes or face in general. Here is Thermoworks statement on using a IR Gun for body temps

We are receiving many inquiries regarding the suitability of our general-purpose infrared thermometers for fever screening of employees and others.

    WAND Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer
ThermoWorks is now taking pre-orders for WAND, its new FDA-Cleared Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer for human temperatures. It is expected to ship in early May.

    Our Other Infrared Thermometers
ThermoWorks other infrared thermometer products are intended for food service, food processing, industrial, scientific and general home use. They are not FDA Cleared for clinical use. We therefore do not make any claims on their suitability for medical temperatures.

In the current pandemic environment, there is a worldwide shortage of infrared sensors and medical infrared thermometers. If someone were to use a general-purpose infrared thermometer as a substitute scanning tool for detecting elevated body temperatures, we offer the following cautions:

    • Forehead temperature is several degrees lower than core body temperature of 98.6°F (37°C). Medical forehead thermometers make a mathematical adjustment to display an equivalent oral temperature. When using general-purpose infrared thermometers to read forehead temperatures, the readings will likely be lower than 98.6°F, even if a fever is present. Normal forehead skin temperature can vary several degrees depending on your environment (indoors or out), exercise, perspiration, etc. It would be normal to read an actual forehead skin surface temperature between 91°F and 94°F if using a general-purpose infrared thermometer.

    • The best approach is to know the normal forehead skin temperature of a specific individual in good health. A surface reading would then be more useful in determining whether a fever is present.

    • In scanning a population of individuals, if a subject had a fever of 4 to 5 degrees above normal, one would expect the forehead skin temperature to read 4 to 5 degrees higher than the average of other healthy subjects. Still, such a scan could not be regarded as a reliable absolute measurement of core body temperature.

    • Users should be aware of the “spot size” of the infrared thermometer’s measurement area. They should also consider the distance-to-target recommendations of the instrument. The angle of the sensor to the subject is also important.

    • If the general-purpose IR thermometer has a laser-pointing feature, it is best to turn the laser off if possible (or cover it with tape) and always use great care to avoid pointing it at someone’s eyes. The laser is not part of the measurement technology and is only used to assist in aiming.

    • Some industrial IR thermometers allow the adjustment of the emissivity setting. In medical literature human skin is noted to have an emissivity between 0.95 and 0.99 regardless of color. Some users report that by setting an adjustable emissivity to 0.78, the instrument will give a forehead temperature reading that approximates the normal oral temperature. We cannot offer advice on the reliability of this approach.

Thermoworks is making a FDA cleared IR WAND non contact forehead thermometer that is available for preorder now, abailable in early May.

I no gets any stimulus money. Apparently you work hard and long enough it is determined that because you did that you don't need it o_O

But I do get a 7% pay cut until end of year and no more matching 403(b) and a few other things. And 6 weeks unpaid time off furlough to be used by the end of the year. Did enough begging that they are going to let me take the month of October off so the dog and I can do our annual trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior grouse hunting. Without pay so instead of renting a cabin I should be staying in the tent.

Screw that, I am too old for that shit. Sold 200 hours vacation time at 85% of value to help out. Seem to be going the wrong way here financially LOL. But at least I still have a job, for now anyhow.

When all the schools closed down, my parents became our childcare provider. I didnt want them doing this with my mom being diabetic and my dad with his heart disease x4 bypass, so I told my work I've decided to just watch my two daugthers for now until this is over. I didnt want to risk my parents and since both wife and I are in healthcare (both heavy patient contact daily). I also didnt want to take this virus home. So short story, I gave them my 2 week notice:anonymous:

Well my boss said she's not accepting my resignation. I guess Im too "valuable". So I guess it pays to be a hard worker like you said. Work has been very helpful and offered to transfer me to another dept temporarily, no pay cut, and be able to work at home until this settles. So I still have a job for now.....

Good for you Paul, very good. Doing things for the right reason can often work out for the best even if it is a leap of faith.

Never thought I'd see when a virus would cause so much loss of revenue everywhere including Healthcare. We are all taking cuts except for nurses. And I agree with that or for anyone else that works front lines, but even our Docs are taking a hit. More than me. Watching the news right now and the Vice President just mentioned where I work by name. But our mainstream business of specialties and treating rare and difficult diseases is pretty much shut down right now. We all will get through this though

So what new smoker or grill are you picking up? :D

I have one of those, maybe not the exact model but it's the same brand. I use it to get temps for my skillet when I pan sear or sautee. It's also fun to point it at random things just to see how hot or cold they are. Sounds dumb but if you had one I bet you'd do it!

Looks like someone beat me to a full explanation, but my immediate reaction was 'That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works!'

    Misery loves company....

Worse for me as I have two kids still in the house who are old enough, but I still claim as dependants, cuz THEY ARE. Who are bitching that they don't get anything since they are claimed. I just tell them stop being a dependant, and then you won't be a dependant! :p
