Scooter. If you stay in town, try to see find some local recovery groups you can keep in touch with in case you need help, or if you want to help.

Also. Check your CB and make sure it's tuned correctly.

Yeah. Even weak hurricanes can knock out power, which is still a PITA. One of your neighbors have a generator?

Good. I was going to say trade smoking food for access to their cool house. :)

I should probably get a generator. With all the flooding in the last 2 years and lack of hurricanes we've had, I'm sure our number is up.

I'm not making light of your situation, however Jim Cantore is a sensationalist prick!!! I wouldn't put a lot of stock into him. Best of luck, and keep an handle on things.

I lived in the Tampa area for 18 years and my wife was born and raised in FL her parents still live in Citrus county. She said that the schools she used to teach at are all closing tomorrow and that the schools are closed tomorrow and public offices around her parents are closing today at 2PM and are closed tomorrow. Said it's a 4 right now. She has been following it more closely than I have been. We are looking to get back there at some point to live and I told her when we build the next time we are installing a whole house gen right from the start.

Forget the generator and make sure you buy impact windows and other hurricane proof items. Power doesn't matter if the things around it are shit.
