Actually smoking lamb over grape vines is quite common in the Mediterranean after the vines are pruned back to start regrowth. Pretty delicious with a simple s&p, garlic, and lemon juice marinade.

Raichlen has a pretty good recipe for a traditional barbacoa using lamb. Makes some great tacos.

Well, for the first brisket in a few years... Not bad. Not great, but not bad. Real good crust with some crunch. Very tender. Went a little light on the wood chips for sure. I keep forgetting brisket can take it. But feels good to get the dust knocked off and look forward to the next one.

Ended up shredding the point for sammiches.

I am back in need of some more experienced, or expert, opinion.

I came to the realization that I need a WSM. Is the 14.5" too small for when I start doing brisket, or will I absolutely need an 18-22"? There a several decent deals locally for the 14.5" and I like that it is still way more portable.

Also, would a turkey be able to fit in the 14.5" as well? Thanks in advance.

Get the bigger one if u like turkey n brisket lol
I mean u could prolly cram a decent bird in the 14.5 but you'd have to get creative to fit a packer in there lol

I was afraid I was going to get that response. Fuck it. I still might get the 14" since I will mostly do tri-tip and smaller pieces, but I can BOLO for a good deal on a bigger one.

I was really hoping to take it with me to use at the campground this upcoming weekend at the river in Havasu.

I'd get at least the 18.5. I have looked at the 14.5 in person and it's tiny. It would be tough to fit anything if size in there, like ribs, brisket, or turkey. You'd have to cut or roll things up. Possibly could even hang things and get more usable space.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I like the bigger one (22). More room for my 16lb briskets.

Just reinforcing this comment. I bought the 18.5 and I have to make sure I get a smaller brisket in order to fit on the grate. The larger one's tend to need to be crunched up to fit.

If you want a 14 for portability and can get a great price on a used one, I'd do it. But keep a lookout for an 18 or 22 for the bigger stuff.

My first was an 18 and I just bought a 14 for portability.

Amazing feedback. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to all of you.

I will primarily be doing tri-tip, so the 14 will do for that and still be portable. Eventually, a 22 for when I feel confident in my abilities to not completely fuck up a brisket and waste a big chunk of meat.

My thermopro should be here today, and there are at least 2 local CL ads for WSM 14's. I will low ball each one and let them know I have options to see who bites on the lower price.
