Stuffer setup and 1st chubs stuffed

All stuffed and resting in the cold garage. 22 chubs in all.

Might try cold smoking these for 12 hours tonight then Sous Vide them tomorrow to finish. IDK so many decisions. I'd better have a couple beers to help me think.

So.. I have a Weber propane grill and a pile of money.

Someone tell me why I don’t want a Traeger? Or suggest similar competitors? No smoking experience, don’t have time to master it. Just want to add to my eating and cooking experience in a new way.

I know Traeger fits this bill. But that’s about all I know. :)

Pretty close to set and forget. And a fraction of the price.

Also as soon and you start making your own smoked/bbq it’s addictive. You’ll enjoy the process.

Again I say look at GMG grills. Less money and runs 50f hotter. I've never had a Treager so I can't comment, but I have 3 friends that had them and now have GMGs.

I have a Weber Genesis and a Traeger Pro 22, also I used to have a 18.5” Weber Smoky Mountain. When I had the WSM, I used my Genesis all the time. Now that I have to Traeger, I never use the Genesis.

Do with that information what you will.

We've discussed pellet grills recently, the GMG always gets a lot of support. I just bought a Pit Boss instead of a Traeger for the same reasons - way less money and hotter. The 820d is slightly smaller than the Traeger 34 but $400 cheaper and available at your local Lowes.

I like process but I also don’t have time for that, which was the attraction. If it’s so simple my woman can use it then all the better.

Looked at Traeger and GMG, and 4 other brands.. by the time I got a YouTube rundown I was kinda over the idea. May pick something up but my pocket is definitely no longer burning wildly.

Appreciate the info and tips. :)

I'm in the Weber gasser, smoker with Automatic Temperature Controller and stacker, and kettle camp. With rotisseries for all of them. And make time to utilize all of them for their various strengths. If I had more room on the deck, and better weather more of the year, I'd likely have more cooking tools yet. So can't personally address the pellet pooper brand debate. However was flipping through the satellite menu last fall and had a bit of a revelation on the Traeger.

There were a bunch of infomercials on and seemed like most of them were for either Bose Speakers or Traeger smokers.

When I built up my home audio and AV system I spent a lot of time on the AVS forum and when it was time to select the sub ran across a retired Engineer for Velodyne. I ended up calling him on the phone and he walked me though the process for model selection and placement in my environment. At one point I made a joke about Bose and he laughed and said yeah if we had spent as much on advertising as they did instead of research we would likely be a household name too. A lot of truth to that statement.

I ended up with a much better system overall at a much lower price when it was all said and done. I'd take a hard look at the other brands that some are mentioning if I was in the market for a pellet pooper.

Congratulations on the anniversary! And that looks fantastic, nice presentation too hope you all enjoyed it. But hard to believe you didn't. Well done on all accounts. Damn it haven't eaten yet and now my stomach is starting to growl, seriously. Coffee isn't cutting it anymore.

I have never used a pellet grill but a few responses back you said you don't have time to master the smoking process. Few do and even fewer master it. That doesn't you can't make some great tasting food with not a whole lot of effort or time. With PID controllers no matter what heat source you use most grill/smokers can me made as set it and for get it as possible. When doing low and slow brisket or pork shoulder the total time involvement is only a few minutes more than grilling burgers.

The statement about “Blows” is so true, it kills me on how people think they are so awesome, when in fact it’s overpriced junk. They used to produce a quality product, but now it’s just a marketing game. There are several others that do the same. Yeti, Beats, Matthews bows are a few to come to mind.

If I had to. Would be covered in rain but just a cloth or vinyl cover on the grill. Only structural cover I have is right against the sliding door to the patio. Not the best spot for a smoker.
