I didn't have bacon or swiss so I used ham and habenero jack. With mayo and honey mustard on a brioche bun with tots.

In Vancouver for a couple of days, hit my old favourite sushi place last night. Since I moved to the interior, I only get back every couple of years.

Sashimi - from the chef's special list, japanese octopus, sea bream, amber jack. From the menu, sockeye and toro. Octopus was just rubbery enough to remind you what you were eating, sea bream was sliced paper thin wit it's own ponzu dipping sauce.

    Negiri - unagi and uni

BBQ black cod - sweet mother of jesus this is incredible, served with a 1/2 teaspoon of some sort of fermented barley? I think that's what it is.

Finished off with a simple roll, sockeye with avocado and cucumber, slight dusting of toasted sesame seeds

It used to be my neighbourhood go to, was ranked in Vancouver's top 3 back in the early 2000's. has changed little since as I realized the chef/owner and his two assistants are the same three making customers happy 24 years later.

No fancy plates, just straight forward classical high quality fish in simple presentations.

Only disappointment was they didn't have monk fish liver on the menu this time. Think of it as a seafood foie gras for richness.

First chance I've had to post. For Mothers day I started by making Waffles and Bacon for breakfast (no pic). For dinner I did Steak (reverse seared), baked potato, wild rice and steamed broccoli. Did Cookies and Cream Cheesecake for dessert (no pic).

I've been cutting carbs and exercising lately......Breakfast and dessert pics would probably added 5 lbs to the scale. Nice job!

I really like the reverse sear for steaks. It's the only way that I have found to get the perfect pink color all the way through but the heavy sear on the outside.

No doubt there lol, I barely ate the next day.

Yes it's been my preferred method for a while. When I cook it most any other way now my wife asks when I'm going to do them the normal way again lol

Yup… that’s what I do for prime rib on bone. Then you can sear what you want. Also good for turning mediocre meat into tender. Just had steak tonight…
